Instrument Revision

I have been working hard with my colleague and friend on the revision of the instruments to be used for my self-assessment research. When it is your own research, there is an even greater sense of achievement. :)

Good News II

I received news about my journal manuscript. The journal wants me to make further revision before resubmitting. This is considered good news because it is not a rejection! :)

Good News I

I received news that my first research proposal (based on my PhD) has received in-principle approval! :) Now I just need to make some revisions and the study should be good to go in the second half of the year. :)

Term 1 Break

It is the start of Term 1 break. Time for some R & R - Review and Revision of Term 1's work for the girls. I am not being harsh as Semestral Assessment 1 (SA1) will begin in late April. This one week break is the perfect time for them to review their work and revise for their SA1.

Last Sprint

This one week September break is the last "sprint" for most, if not all the Primary 6 students in their preparation for the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE). Good luck to everyone, including my own daughter, Marieann. It's the last sprint.

Labour Day 2014

Labour Day is not a rest day for my girls as they are "labouring" away. They have to revise for their coming examinations. No choice, Girls, but you can have your Labour Day off in lieu after your examinations. :)

"Revision/ Refresher" Workshop

I attended the Primary 5 & 6 Mathematics and Science workshop at SCGS from 6-8pm. As usual, I went alone as the girls' father had no interest in knowing/ learning such things. Again, I saw the surprised looks on my ex-colleagues' faces upon seeing me lol. They always feel that I already know the things that they are going to present so I need not attend. I know things haven't changed much since I last attended the workshop in 2013 and since I last taught the subjects in terms of teaching approaches. But the workshop is good as a revision or refresher for me. :)

Movie Nights

As a reward for my girls for their hard work (revising for their exams), I allowed them to watch a movie in the evening after a whole day of revision. I found that watching movie is actually a good motivation for them. Over the past few nights, the girls have watched Pacific Rim, Epic, World War Z and Monster University. :) It is okay that it is extrinsic motivation for now, hopefully they will find their intrinsic motivation soon.

PSLE Marking Week

Thank goodness for PSLE marking week! I was able to do two solid days of revision with my girls. I hope it helps them... Why am I more anxious about my girls' exams than they are? I am not expecting Band 1s from them but only that they pass. Sigh.

Exam Leave

I took leave this week to supervise my girls while they revise for their examinations. I know it is sad that I am doing this and that their exams are stressing me in a big way, especially when I am in the education profession and assessment is my research interest. :( :( But as a parent, when faced with my girls, the researcher's hat disappeared most quickly into thin air even before I could say the word "exam"! I guess only parents will understand how I feel...

False Alarm

Today was the last day that the girls followed me into office. Tomorrow, they will be back at school. While I was checking up on Marieann and her progress in Science revision in the late morning, the fire alarm went off!! My girls were grinning from ear to ear while a collective groan arose from the adults in the office. My girls have been hoping for a repeat of Monday's fire drill. After a while, it proved to be a false alarm. My girls were really disappointed that it was a false alarm but all the adults in the office were really glad that it was a false alarm! Lol. Personally I think my girls were hoping for another fire drill so that they could take a break from their exam revision. Well, just bear with it, in a few days' time, your exams will be over. :)

No Drill, No Thrill

For the third day, the girls are back in my office. However, there was no repeat of a fire drill...
No drill, no thrill, they said lol.
Maybe tomorrow, they said.
NO, I thought.
But since my office is a conducive place for them to do their revision with no distractions, they are welcomed to come to my office again tomorrow. They can try to catch another fire drill but good luck with that lol.

Exam Revision

My girls are back in my office for the second day. They continued with their revision - Marieann writing up her Science notes and Juliane doing Math exercises online. They were waiting for excitement to happen today in the office. Unfortunately for them (and fortunately for me), the fire drill wasn't repeated lol.
Since they have been hard at work, I decided to give them a little tame excitement. I brought them to Jurong Hill for lunch lol. Well, it is a place that they have never been to and it has a kind of old world charm. You definitely don't see many places like this anymore in Singapore.
After lunch (at the Japanese restaurant at the bottom of the tower), the girls enjoyed running up the look-out tower at Jurong Hill. Instead of stairs going up the tower, it is a ramp all the way to the top. They said it was like a car park but for people lol. The girls could see an aerial view of Jurong from the top of the tower - Jurong Island, Bukit Timah Hill in the distance, etc.

The girls also enjoyed walking round the Garden of Fame, looking at the many trees planted by visiting foreign dignitaries from 1969 until 1984. They only recognised one name "Queen Elizabeth II" lol.
As usual (whenever they visit my office), Marieann and Juliane enjoyed themselves. It was a fruitful day for the girls.

Blocked Time

The long weekend has really been great for me in terms of my revision! I could really concentrate on my revision. I could work late into the nights like 3-4am without having to worry about waking up early the next day for work. :)
