The girls' exam results are back. Both girls are not maximising their potential. :(

Exam Week

Well, not exactly as examinations (exams) actually started last week with the the orals and the compositions. This coming week will be the main papers for English, Math, Mother Tongue and Science. I haven't been able to do much with the girls for this mid-year exams due to my untimely illness (still coughing :( ). Guess it is as good as any time to let go a little and let the girls take on more ownership of their learning. 
Perhaps thus, I will find a little peace and less stress... until I see their results! Lol. :P

Labour Day 2014

Labour Day is not a rest day for my girls as they are "labouring" away. They have to revise for their coming examinations. No choice, Girls, but you can have your Labour Day off in lieu after your examinations. :)

Anxious Times

Examination results are slowing streaming in for the girls, component by component for the various subjects... :S Anxious times.

Movie Nights

As a reward for my girls for their hard work (revising for their exams), I allowed them to watch a movie in the evening after a whole day of revision. I found that watching movie is actually a good motivation for them. Over the past few nights, the girls have watched Pacific Rim, Epic, World War Z and Monster University. :) It is okay that it is extrinsic motivation for now, hopefully they will find their intrinsic motivation soon.

Why I Even Bother Asking?

The girls are now having their examinations. Out of concern or anxiety or habit or all three, I asked them how they did for their respective examinations. They said, "Good". When I probed them further if the exam was easy or difficult, they said, "Easy".
A friend told me that kids will never tell the truth even if they found the examinations difficult because they don't want to get a scolding from their parents! Well, that makes sense. Guess I should not bother asking my girls about their examinations. 

Exams Started!

My girls started their written examinations today. The start of sleepless nights for me... :( I wonder why my daughters don't seemed to be anxious about their examination...

Almost Exams

The girls' oral examinations will be held this coming week. School has already began oral preparation with the girls. However, I still need to do my part as a parent. I tried my best to revise with the girls on their oral. I don't think English oral would be a problem but Chinese oral may be a problem, especially for Marieann. :(

PSLE 2013 - Oral Examinations

The first of the PSLE (Primary School Leaving Examinations) will start this week, with the Oral examinations being held tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, on 15 and 16 August 2013 (Thursday and Friday).

Marieann's Exam Results

Marieann brought home all her examination scripts. I am surprised that she received the highest marks for Science too, like Juliane. I guess writing notes suits the learning style of both my girls. :)

The girls' examination results are starting to stream in...

Last Paper!

Today is the last paper for my girls. I felt really relieved as if I am taking the exams myself! During the past two weeks (more so this week), I have done my best to help my girls with their revision. It is now up to their performances at their individual papers.

Exam Leave

I took leave this week to supervise my girls while they revise for their examinations. I know it is sad that I am doing this and that their exams are stressing me in a big way, especially when I am in the education profession and assessment is my research interest. :( :( But as a parent, when faced with my girls, the researcher's hat disappeared most quickly into thin air even before I could say the word "exam"! I guess only parents will understand how I feel...

Breather

Decided to give the girls a break from their exam revision and to give myself a break from being a Tiger mom. We watched Ah Boys to Men II! It was hilarious. : D

That Stressful Time Again!

It is that stressful time of the year again. Starting from tomorrow, the girls will be having their exams. Why am I always the more anxious one about the girls' exams than they are?!

Signature Please

Both Marieann and Juliane were returned their exam papers today for parent's signature. They both passed their exams. However, I felt differently towards the girls despite both passing all their exams.
I was really proud of Marieann because she achieved all her targets and has improved in her results, especially for Chinese. :) I will be getting her her Sentimental Circus stuff as promised. Well-done, Marieann! Keep it up.
I was disappointed with Juliane because she had fallen short of achieving her targets. :( As a consequence for not doing well enough, Juliane will be doing revision work during the school holidays. Pull up your socks, Juliane!

Streaming In

The girls' exam results are streaming in...
So far, Marieann has gotten her Science and Chinese results and partial results for Math while Juliane has gotten all her results - English, Math and Chinese. I think by tomorrow, Marieann would have gotten the remaining results.

Aren't You Stressed?

Today, a colleague asked me that, "Aren't you stressed?"
"Stress? What stress?", I asked. 
"The kids' exams!", said my colleague. 
"Oh! (Laughing) No because my kids' exams are over!", said I. 
From our conversation and with my other colleagues, I realised my girls' school started their exams earlier than most schools. One reason could be the girls' school is a full school (both primary and secondary schools in the same site) and the school wants the primary school students out of the school before the O level exams start in early November because their school holiday starts on 10 November, earlier than the other primary schools. :)

Unstress Almost

Tomorrow is Marieann's last paper - Mathematics. I would be going over with her the various Math topics. Just a little more to go, Marieann and it will be over soon enough. For me too. :)
