PSLE 2016 Results

The PSLE 2016 results are out! Even though this is my second child who has gone through PSLE, it does NOT get any easier. I feel so anxious and it feels like I am the one collecting the results!

Farewell

My fellow counsellor and colleague, Shulian whom I have been working with for the past 6 years in my counselling school has decided to further her studies. As such, she will be leaving the school at the end of the year.
It is really sad to see a fellow counsellor leave but at the same time, I am happy for Shulian that she is continuing with her learning. 
All the best in your studies, Shulian. May our paths cross again. 

P6 Graduation Night

Juliane attended her P6 Graduation Night held in school tonight. 
Lots of fun moments, lots of memories and lots of goodies! 

PTM 1

I attended the Parent-Teacher Meeting at Juliane's school this afternoon. I received good feedback from her English and Math teachers. I spoke to her Chinese teacher over the phone a week earlier as I couldn't schedule a slot to see her today. Her Science teacher will be calling me too as her meeting slots were full booked too. 

Project Work Day 2015

I took leave today to attend Juliane's Project Work Day in school. Parents were invited to attend and watch the Project Work presentations by the Primary 5 students. I arrived just before 8am and the presentations ended at 9:40am.

I hoped by attending Juliane's presentation, it shows her that I am celebrating her success in learning. 

Student Self-Assessment Workshop II

I conducted another Student Self-Assessment Workshop and this time to the entire staff of 70+ teachers of a primary school. I am very happy that schools and teachers seem to be gaining more interest about student self-assessment! :) I had a great time talking to the teachers and sharing my knowledge of self-assessment. :)

Breakfast with Daughters

A Breakfast with Daughters was organised at my counselling school. It is a really good idea for parents to have breakfast together with their daughters in school. Parents can learn more about how their daughters behave in school, who their friends are as well as mingle with the other parents and school staff in a relaxing atmosphere. :)

Juliane's Camping Trip

Juliane came home today from her camping trip. She is alright other than a bruise on her shin because she had a fall at camp. She was telling me excitedly about her camp activities and she also related about her panic attack during abseiling. It would seem that Juliane has a fear of heights like I do.  
Juliane enjoyed her camping trip. She seemed to have grown "taller". Maybe in my eyes, she has grown a  little more independent with her stay away from home and so seemingly, she is standing taller now. :)

Quiet

This is the first day of Juliane's camping trip. Somehow the place is very quiet without Juliane around. Now I realise how much Juliane talks when she is at home lol. I wonder how she is at camp...

Packing for Camp

Juliane will be off for a three days two nights school camp from 2 to 4 February. We went through the camping checklist thrice just to make sure Juliane has everything that she needed for camp. :P It almost feels like I am going to camp lol. The most important thing is her medication as she is prone to migraines. :( I just hope her migraine doesn't act up during her camping trip. I hope she will enjoy herself. :)

No Remedial

Juliane was excited to announce to me that she did not receive any parental consent slip for remedial classes in school. Last year, she had to attend Math remedial but in the second semester. I told her that it meant that she has improved in her work but it doesn't mean that she can slack off. She has to continue to work on her studies or she may get a slip for remedial in the second semester 2015! Hopefully this "no remedial" can keep her on her toes, and work hard in her studies for this year. :)  

Eyes on You Now

Now that Marieann is settled in her new school, my eyes are now on Juliane. She is in Primary 5 this year and it is an important year. She has the potential to excel but she is not pushing herself as she tends to be easily contented with an average grade. I need to find a way to motivate her. 

Oversight

There is no end to a mother's worries and anxieties. 
Right after Marieann's PSLE, it is Juliane's school exams. :( I placed a bit too much focus on Marieann because of her PSLE that I have overlooked Juliane's exam revision. :( 
Hopefully there is time to make up for it this week even though her exams are held this week. Wish us luck. 

Catch-Up

During the two days of PSLE Oral, Juliane had no school but e-learning at home instead. She managed to do some e-homework but not everything. Some documents/ programmes, which are required in order for her to complete her homework, strangely could not be opened/ viewed on the desktop but only on my work notebook. No choice, Juliane will have to catch up with outstanding e-homework over this weekend.

"Tattooed"

Someone got a "tattoo".

Juliane came home after their school's National Day celebration (half day school) with a Singapore flag "tattoo" on her face. She proudly went out in the afternoon with me to run an errand with the tattoo still on her face lol.

Intense

There is only one word to describe the data collection currently on-going in my project. 
INTENSE.

Wedding Invitation

I have just received my first wedding invitation from my student whom I taught in primary school! :) This is so exciting! She is not the first of my students to be married but she is the first to invite me. I am really touched. My girls are also invited and they are very excited as well. :)

On the Other Side of the Fence

For once, I am on the other side of the fence. I was at a field trip, not as a teacher but as a parent volunteer! Lol. :) I volunteered for Marieann's field trip to the Singapore Science Centre. There were two P6 classes who went to the Science Centre. The two classes were split into three group, with the two form teachers each taking charge of one group and the two parent volunteers (one of them is me!) taking charge of the third group. 
We arrived at the Science Centre close to 9:30am and started with the Mind Fest activities. The students each completed two hands-on activities. There was a break from 10:30am to 11am and followed by an hour at the Climate Change exhibit whereby the students had to complete a worksheet. By 12:40pm, we arrived back at SCGS. :) It was an exciting and interesting experience, accompanying my daughter on her field trip. But I am not sure if Marieann felt the same way lol. :P Read on to find out why.

It is quite different being on the other side of the fence, the students are not really scared of you, the parent volunteer because you are not their teacher and they usually think that you won't dare to scold them and that they can climb over your head. However, I proved their thinking wrong haha. As the other parent was soft-spoken, I had to do my teacher thing to retain order (and control) of some rowdy students in the group. I am really glad that I still have my teacher voice and look. The students obeyed me without a word haha. :) I had no problem slipping into a teacher mode! Marieann was most horrified when she heard from her friends who were in my group that I told the group off for not knowing how to line up properly. She said her classmates told her that I am scary but I am also pretty haha. :P I guess the field trip was fun for me because I became a teacher again for the morning. As a colleague from NIE mentioned, once a teacher always a teacher. She is so right. :)

Parent Volunteer

My girls have been asking me if I could be a parent volunteer at SCGS since they were in Primary 1. However the nature of my work doesn't really permit me to be a regular parent volunteer so I never became one. 
Recently, Marieann has been asking me again if I could be the parent volunteer for her school field trip to the Singapore Science Centre. This will be her last year in SCGS Primary. I guess it will be a good memory for Marieann that I was with her on one of her school field trips. So I agreed to her request. 
Marieann was very happy when she confirmed with me today that I will be the parent volunteer for her Science Centre field trip. It seems her form teacher (my former colleague) was glad too. I told Marieann that she better hope that I don't lapse into "teacher" mode and start scolding the girls when they misbehave at the Science Centre. Marieann had a most horrified look, probably half regretting asking me to go! LOL. :P

Atypical Response

Juliane had another fall in school (she is getting quite clumsy :S) yesterday during PE lesson. Her PE teacher wanted to inform me about Juliane's fall. Before her teacher called me, she asked Juliane how she should address me. 
I thought the normal response from my daughter, or from any daughter on how to address her mother would be, if the parents are still married, "Mrs So-and-So" or if it's single parent, it would be "Ms So-and-So" or "Mdm So-and-So". 
Instead this is my daughter's response to her teacher, "Since my mother has a PhD, you call her Dr Wong." 
Well, it is not wrong in what she said but it just not the typical response... Perhaps she is proud of the fact that her mother has a PhD lol.
