AERA 2018?

Due to a last minute directive, some of us will be rushing to submit abstracts for AERA 2018 due on 24 July 2017. :O 

Crunch Time

It is crunch time for those of us putting in our grant proposals. Food first before writing!

Submitted!

I submitted my first article as sole author for review to an international journal. A small milestone in the career of an early academic researcher. :P It is currently under review. Fingers crossed!

Camping Out Cafes?

A good friend and colleague has been looking for cafes that are good for camping out to do writing, other than the usual Starbucks and Coffee bean cafes. 
The cafes need to: 
(1) have comfortable seats and tables (obviously if one is going to be seated for a period of time), 
(2) have powerpoints (for notebooks, especially if working for a stretch of several hours),
(3) have good coffee and food (especially if the brain needs a kick-start),
(4) be not too crowded (especially if writing during the weekends),
(5) have convenient parking nearby.
I think the first 3 points are a must for my friend. If anyone knows of cafes that fit the above criteria (other than the usual Starbucks and Coffee Bean cafes), let me know.

Multiple Regression (Argh!)

I have been working hard on a multiple regression report. It is the first time that I am writing such a report (stats is not really my favourite subject in the world but I am stuck with it). I have written close to 50 pages. Probably another 5-10 pages to go before I can pass the first draft over to my PI.

Hiccup

Met with a hiccup in the process of my dissertation revision. :( Hope the difficulty would be resolved soon!

Have been writing intensely today... Need to finish my revision soon...

Finalised

It has been finalised. I have checked and checked till I can't bear another look at it. It will be printed out, ring-bound and handed in.

"Housebound"

I have been housebound for the past 2 weekends. No, I am fine, just that I am trying to tie up loose ends. As it has been really busy at work due to the new project, I could only find time to write really late at night and during the weekends.

End of the Journey?

I met with my supervisors today. They feel I need to do a bit more polishing and my dissertation will be ready for examination. They have set me the date for early January 2011.

I can't believe it. After working on my dissertation for so long, it feels really strange that my PhD journey is coming to an end soon. I actually feel a bit lost...

All Done!

I have finally finished with my dissertation revision. I have added another section in my Introduction chapter, added in another chapter as well as revamped my final chapter. I printed out three copies of my dissertation and ring-bound them. Two copies will be on my supervisors' table come Monday. Wish me luck, LOTS OF LUCK. Lol. :)

Almost Done

Updated 31 May 2010 2:16am. I AM DONE!! :) I have finally completed the revision for my dissertation. :)

I am more than halfway through the revision of my last chapter. I am really on a roll here. I have been writing and revising last night (only had 3 hours of sleep) and for most part of today. Give me another couple of hours and I will be done.

The Tooth, the Move and the Writing

I brought Juliane to see my dentist friend, Hoon at 12pm. Juliane needed to extract her milk tooth as her permanent tooth is growing up behind it. Sigh. It's the same problem with her previous milk/ permanent tooth.

We went to Hoon's place after she knocked off at 1pm. We had lunch at her place, followed by her showing us the common areas around her condo such as the zen pond, swimming pools, playgrounds. Juliane had lots of fun running around and having her photos taken by my friend, Hoon whom she calls Teeth Yi Yi (literal translation, Teeth Aunty because of her occupation :P). I also managed to help my friend moved her stuff out from her rooms to the living room as there would be repair work on the parquet flooring in her 3 rooms. Hoon later came over to our place to see my mother.

More writing needed. I am almost near completion with my dissertation. I am onto the revision of my last chapter. I just need to pull another all-nighter or two and I will be DONE!

Argh!

I am in the midst of revising my chapters. My chapter 4 stats is just driving me up the wall! ARGH. I think once I am done with my chapters, I never want to deal with stats again.

On A Roll

I am on a roll now in terms of my writing. I have finished my 3rd revision for chapters 1 and 3. Going to start on my chapters 2 and 5 soon. I didn't feel tired despite having put in an all-nighter last night. I am going pull another all-nighter tonight and tomorrow night too.

What is urging me on is the thought that I want my grandmother to be proud of me, and of my achievements. Although she is still in a coma, I hope to be able to tell her that I will be graduating soon and I will bring honour to the family as the first PhD holder in the family. Thus, I have to finish the revision of my dissertation before I go back to Taiwan in mid June.

Paperwork

I have lots of work to do once I am back.

1) I have to put in the claim for the AERA 2010 conference.
2) I have to put in the insurance claim for my medical expenses when I was in Denver.
3) I have to mail my USA Departure Record form back to USA as it was not collected from me when I departed USA. :( Otherwise, I may have problem entering USA in the future. Sigh.
4) I have to work on an article, which my former boss and I co-wrote, and submit it for a journal.
5) I have to work on the book chapter which my current boss, 2 colleagues and I are co-writing.
6) I have to work on an abstract for submission to another conference at the end of the year.
7) I have to work on my dissertation and get it ready for final draft by end of this month.

Book Chapter

I am co-writing a book chapter with my boss and another researcher. My first time! Really excited. :) Writing a chapter for a book is very different from being a co-editor for a book. My former boss gave me the opportunity to be a co-editor for a book. It seemed a relatively easier job as I only needed to edit the various chapters and send back to the authors for amendments/ revisions. Now being the co-author, there is a lot more work to do. :P

Revision - Last?

I am done with revising Chapters 1 and 3. But I am stuck with revising Chapter 2, my literature review. Don't know how to cut! It's all my hard work lol. Never mind, I still have another day to mull over it. :P
