Out, Damned Tooth! Out!

M: Out, damned tooth! Out, I say! One; two: why, then, ’tis time to do ’t.

*One, two, Three! Out it comes!*

Marieann came to me victorious, showing me her (baby) tooth which she had pulled out! She has been complaining of a loose tooth for the last 2 weeks and has been fiddling with it, trying to get it out. She finally did it tonight.

Good Start(s)

It's the second day of school. Things are going well. Juliane likes her teachers and her classmates. Marieann is doing her homework without having me telling her to. :) Both girls are off to a good start.

Not long after I have tucked the girls into bed, both of them came rushing out excitedly. Juliane was holding something in her hand and she had a bloody mouth. Oh goodness, Juliane had accidentally pulled out her milk tooth that was loose. After rinsing her mouth, she went back to bed. For Juliane, that's a good start, not afraid of blood lol.

The Tooth, the Move and the Writing

I brought Juliane to see my dentist friend, Hoon at 12pm. Juliane needed to extract her milk tooth as her permanent tooth is growing up behind it. Sigh. It's the same problem with her previous milk/ permanent tooth.

We went to Hoon's place after she knocked off at 1pm. We had lunch at her place, followed by her showing us the common areas around her condo such as the zen pond, swimming pools, playgrounds. Juliane had lots of fun running around and having her photos taken by my friend, Hoon whom she calls Teeth Yi Yi (literal translation, Teeth Aunty because of her occupation :P). I also managed to help my friend moved her stuff out from her rooms to the living room as there would be repair work on the parquet flooring in her 3 rooms. Hoon later came over to our place to see my mother.

More writing needed. I am almost near completion with my dissertation. I am onto the revision of my last chapter. I just need to pull another all-nighter or two and I will be DONE!

Tooth's Out

In the morning when I was reading the papers, Juliane asked me to look at something in her mouth.

Juliane: There's something hard hard inside my mouth.
Me: Is it? I have a look. Ahhh, your new tooth is out! Why didn't you say anything?
Juliane: Oh, I thought it was skin.
Me: ... ...

Juliane's lower right front milk tooth started becoming loose about 3 weeks ago. I thought it would drop off on its own as it did with Marieann's milk teeth so I didn't bother too much with it until today. I was so surprised to see Juliane's new permanent tooth growing out from behind her milk tooth. Oh no, I hope her new tooth won't be crooked! I quickly called my friend, Hoon who is a dentist. She managed to squeeze Juliane in for an appointment today. Juliane was really brave! She sat really still for the jab whereas I paled at the sight of the needle. :S Within 15 minutes, Juliane had her milk tooth extracted. :) Hoon said it is still too early to say if her tooth would be crooked. Hopefully her tongue movement would help to push out the tooth to its correct position.

To reward Juliane for her bravery, the "tooth fairy" (aka me) will be paying her a visit tonight lol. :P

All I Want for New Year is...

My Two Front Teeth. Err.. not me lah! It's Marieann. Lol.

Marieann's upper right front tooth fell out on its own tonight after dinner. Her upper left front tooth fell out about a week ago. At least now, I don't have to worry that she might accidentally swallow her tooth in her sleep or something. Lol. She is now officially toothless, front teeth wise, haha.

I hope her front teeth will grow out soon, nice and straight. :)

Tooth Fairy II & The Marmalade Pantry, HV

We brought Marieann to her 8pm appointment with my dentist friend, Hoon. Marieann has encountered the same problem again as with her earlier dental visit. Her permanent tooth has erupted behind her lower front right milk tooth while it is still firmly rooted in place. This has resulted in the permanent tooth growing crookedly. Not very nice for a girl.

She is really a very brave girl. She didn't whimper or make a single sound or make a single movement while watching my dentist friend gave her an injection on her lower jaw and then proceeded to extract her tooth! Mind you, she watched! If I were her, I would have closed my eyes. No, actually, I would have bolted from the clinic, lol. Her tooth extraction was over in 15 minutes, really fast and easy. My friend, Hoon told me she is really impressed with Marieann and her steadiness. Yup, my mother did a wonderful job in explaining to Marieann the tooth extraction process.

Tonight, there will be a visit from the Tooth Fairy (aka me, her mother, lol). :)

Since Marieann was Hoon's last patient, we went for dinner together. We went to The Marmalade Pantry's new outlet at Holland Village, close to 9pm. Food at The Marmalade Pantry never fails me nor fails to put a smile on my face. Their food is real comfort food!

Since the girls had their dinner, they had their cupcakes ($3.70 each): Marieann, the Cloud Nine (white coconut cake with cream cheese) and Juliane, the Limonta (tart lemon glazed cake). (Won't show the pictures here since they were featured in an earlier Marmalade Pantry visit).

We, the adults ordered the following dishes to share:
Hoon ordered the Crab Caesar ($18) which is heavenly. The lettuce is really crisp and fresh and the dressing was neither too much or too little. The crab meat and the pine nuts made this ordinary Caesar refreshing and extraordinary. :) A must-have for salad lovers!


The girl's father ordered his usual, Scrambled Eggs & Sausages on Toast with Field Mushrooms ($15). This is what people go for during Sunday Brunch at The Marmalade Pantry. But it is available the whole day, indicating its popularity with Pantry's patrons, like us, lol. :P


I ordered a Roast Pork Loin with Sage & Thyme, Caramelized Sweet Potato and Sauerkraut ($25). The pork loin was thick and nicely roasted to the right degree of crispiness! The pork loin was seasoned with just the right amount of sage and thyme which allowed the natural taste of the pork to come forth. I love the fat that just melts in the mouth, so sinful, hahaha. (Trying to rationalise, once in a while is okay, lol) The pork went really with the sauerkraut and the sweet potato.


Unanimously, we all decided to order the Penne with Broccoli, Ham & Cheese ($7.50) from the kids' menu. LOL. The penne was cooked in a real rich creamy sauce. A simple dish but a winner to all of us.


To round off a wonderfully rich (and comforting) dinner, Hoon and I ordered our Mint tea and the girls' father had his Iced Coffee.

The staff was really nice and attentive. Just before we left, the staff noted how my girls loved the cupcakes, they gave the girls each a cupcake to bring home. =)


They are really nice hor. No wonder, we are their regular patrons, lol.

After my counselling, I went to watch Resident Evil 3 in the afternoon. My birthday month, so decided to treat myself to a movie, lol. Will review the movie in another post. Not in this post, not now. I don't want to be hacked to death by friends who have not seen it. In case, my review post is too much of a spoiler. Hahaha. Soon, I promise. :)

Tooth Fairy

Today, Marieann lost her first baby/ milk tooth - the front tooth on her lower jaw. Well, it didn't fall out on its own, instead she needed to have it extracted. Reason being, her permanent tooth erupted directly behind her milk tooth, even before her milk tooth started to loosen and fall out. Hmm... gave her too much milk, cheese and yoghurt to eat when she was younger. Too much calcium. Lol.

My mother brought her to see my dentist friend, Hoon. Both Hoon and I thought that there might be some problem extracting Marieann's tooth because she was quite resistant at her last visit to Hoon for a simple clean-up. Anyway, I talked to Marieann last night about her dental visit today and she seemed okay. We thought we shall see today.

Surprisingly, it was a breeze for Hoon to extract her tooth. Marieann didn't protest and didn't shed a single tear. Apparently, my mother psyched her up too before the dental visit. But for a 5-year old to be able to sit still in the dental chair and have her tooth extracted, it is a big deal! I think some adults have trouble doing that. I know because I have that problem. Sorry, Hoon. Hahaha :P

Well done, Marieann. I am so proud of you! You are such a brave girl. Remember to place your tooth under your pillow tonight before you sleep, tomorrow you will find a little something from the Tooth Fairy. =)
