My Fortune

I found a fortune cookie in my stash of food. It's safe to eat since its expiry date is in August 2016. I started laughing when I read it. It is most accurate!

PTM 2

I attended the PTM at Marieann's school this morning. Her form teacher gave me some observations about Marieann in school. Her form teacher also complimented Marieann for being made a student leader in her CCA when she is only in Secondary 2 as the leadership is usually helmed by Sec 3 or 4 student. She is the Vice-President for her Library CCA. :) 

Cluster Workshop

I conducted a North Zone cluster workshop for 30 teachers. The teachers were interested to learn how to translate education research to improve their classroom practices. Although I was still having a flu, I didn't cancel the workshop as I thought it wasn't fair to the teachers who signed up months ago for this workshop.
I was really touched when the MOE officers who arranged the logistics for the workshop also prepared something extra for me!

PTM 1

I attended the Parent-Teacher Meeting at Juliane's school this afternoon. I received good feedback from her English and Math teachers. I spoke to her Chinese teacher over the phone a week earlier as I couldn't schedule a slot to see her today. Her Science teacher will be calling me too as her meeting slots were full booked too. 

Dreamscape by Lee Kow Fong

I attended an art exhibition, Dreamscape by Lee Kow Fong, a local artist/ illustrator. 
I really love his style of drawing. It allows me to escape into a whimsical world. :) Lee also incorporates local scenery/ icons into his drawings which makes them special.

I bought two sets of his postcards. :)

Lunch with My Student

I met up with my 2000 Primary 4 Prudence student, Lizzie for lunch today after 16 years! I can't believe that I taught her that many years ago. She is much taller than I remembered her to be haha. Actually I remember all my ex-students as they were in Primary 4! :P We had a great time chatting about the times in SCGS, and what's happening in life now.

Pottery Artwork 2016

Juliane brought home her artworks which she made during her Pottery CCA in school. I quite like the colour combination for some of her pieces. 

Green Interest

Marieann went on a learning journey to Oh Chin Huat Hypoponic Farms Pte Ltd. She came home with vegetables and plants that she bought from the farm. She is kind of like my mother, likes and has a flair for planting. :)

NAPFA Test

Juliane had her 2.4km run today which is one component of the NAPFA (National Physical Fitness Award) test. She said she was so exhausted after the run. 
So far, she has accumulated 17 points from the other five components (sit-ups, standing broad jumps, sit & reach, incline pulls up, shuttle run). I just hope she can get Gold haha. I received Gold award for all my NAPFA tests from Primary 6 to Junior College 2. My best component is always the 2.4km run with a personal best record of 10 minutes. :)

I have a weakness for files, especially cute ones. I have lost count of how many I have and some are still kept in their clear plastic bags. Maybe one day I should take a photo of all my files!

Historical K-drama

Someone recommended that I watch this new historical period Korean drama, The Flower in Prison. 
I may just watch it as I always prefer historical period drama. I have previously watched Jewel in the Palace, Yi San, Dong Yi, Iljimae, Queen In Hyun's Man, Jumong, and Queen Seok Deok. :)

Grassroots Book Room & Open Book Cafe

I visited Grassroots Book Room, thanks to a visiting professor. :) A former colleague brought the visiting professor, Prof Chou to the bookstore and I was invited along.
I really like Grassroots Book Room because it reminds me of Taiwanese bookshops. It sells mainly Chinese books but there are English books too. :) The books are really interesting and colourful and the displays are most charming and attractive.

It also has a cafe hidden at the back of the book shop, Open Book Cafe. It sells coffee and tea, cakes, pastries and bread, all hand-made by the cafe owner! It is a really quaint and cosy place to relax in, great place to have a cup of tea, a piece of cake/ tart and read a book. :)

Semestral Assessment 1

Before I know it, the examinations are over for the girls. 
For this examination period, I figured it's time for them to take ownership of their own learning. I still do the nagging but I no longer sit with them when they are studying or revising. 
We'll see how it goes.

My Nokia Lumia 930 has been acting up such as heating up for no reason, hanging and its battery draining very fast. Even though it is fully charged 100% in the morning at 8am, it would be down to 15% by 7pm. I had no choice. :( Worse, the salesperson laughed at me when he saw my Nokia phone. :( :( 

Happy Mother's Day 2016

Happy Mother's Day to everyone I know who is a mother, including my mother, my maternal and paternal aunts, my cousins, my friends, my colleagues and ex-colleagues and my ex-students! 

I celebrated Mother's Day with my mother and a close family friend, Aunty Cindy Goh before my mother leaves for Taiwan on Monday to visit her family.

That Moment of Truth from Game of Thrones S6E2

My mother is a loyal and faithful follower of Game of Thrones. During that final crucial scene in Episode 2 of Season 6, I was disappointed that Jon Snow remained "dead". But my mother told me to wait for it. She said, "He will come back to life again when everyone has left the room". 
"Yeah, sure and you are the director", I answered her. And of course, she was absolutely right a second later!!
