We had our RPC 2017 Appreciation Lunch at Straits Kitchen at Grand Hyatt. It was a great lunch, being in the company of some pretty awesome colleagues and friends. :)

Farewell, Sabina!

I bade farewell to a colleague and friend, Sabina as today is her last day of service. 
Thank you so much, Sabina for your friendship and the life lesson about zen-ness. I shall work towards being more zen I wish you all the best in life and may you find all the happiness you deserve so much!

Happy Teacher's Day 2011

It's Teacher's Day. The girls gave their presents to their teachers yesterday as their school celebrated Teacher's Day yesterday. To show their appreciation for their teachers, Juliane bought "Best Teacher certificates" for her teachers while Marieann made bookmarks for her teachers. :)
Every year this time, I would also visit my former lecturers to thank them for giving me the gift of knowledge. :)

Touched

I am really touched by my colleagues' and friends' concerns and gestures towards me over my grandmother's passing.

Thank you, everyone. I am really appreciative of your concerns and gestures. Don't worry about me, I will be fine.

Appreciation and Farewell(?)

Today is the Appreciation Lunch for our research centre's IT staff, Redzuan, Swee Lin and Terrence. They will be leaving our centre and re-assigned to the institute's IT department.

The show started at 11:30am. One of our PMs, Pauline recited limericks which she composed about each of our IT staff. We had a slide show of the journey of our IT department since it started in 2003 to the present. Then we had our own "Loanshark Beng" who was hilarious when commenting on the words we had written for our IT staff. Never knew being Beng can be so funny. :P Finally we have our dear IT staff, Redzuan, Swee Lin and Terrence say a few words each, followed by lunch. :)



Well, Redzuan, Swee Lin and Terrence, thank you for all the help you have given me over the years with regards to IT. All of you can now have peace of mind knowing from 1 Feb 2009 onwards, that when the phone rings, it won't be me. Haha. :P You see, I have a very high tendency rate of having IT problems! :P I will never forget the 5-second pause which always followed my "This is Hwei Ming" announcement on the phone before their reaction of "Auntie, what you want?". Hahaha. Hmm, how come you all react in the same way?! LOL. :)

I wish Redzuan and Swee Lin all the best in your next work assignment and all the best to Terrence for your coming exams. :) We will miss you very much. I know I will, being the IT-idiot I am, hahaha!! Do come back and visit us when you can. :) Take care.

Appreciation II

Today, I received yet another show of appreciation.

I was counselling in school. At one of the sessions, the HOD PC came by and asked me to step outside the room for a while. Thinking she might have a new case or some information to share about one of the counsellees, I hurried out. To my surprise, she handed me a bar of chocolate and a laminated paper covered with students' writing. It is my Teachers' Day gift from my counsellees!

When I looked at the paper in between sessions, I am really touched by what the girls have written! Their show of appreciation, even if it is just in a few lines of words, is reward enough for me! For the whole day, I am really happy that I have been able to do something for these girls, and that they know that I am trying my best to help them. :) This is the joy of counselling!

Appreciation

This evening, two NUS students whom I gave an interview to a few months ago came by my place. They had interviewed me for their project which they sent for a competition. They came to see me this evening to show their appreciation for my help with a card and a box of chocolates. I have told them previously that I appreciated their gesture but it wasn't necessary as I didn't really do much. :) Nonetheless, they decided to visit me.

Thank you, Jia Qi and Heather. I really appreciated it. I hope you girls will do well for the competition and for your studies. :)

Teachers' Day Celebration

The school I am counselling at celebrated Teachers' Day today instead of tomorrow. The girls were dismissed earlier today at 11 am so as to give the teachers an earlier break too to enjoy a Teachers' Day buffet lunch at Royal Plaza on Scotts Hotel. Because of the earlier dismissal time, I also benefitted, can take a break as there are less girls to counsel for today. :)

There was the teachers' day celebration programme in the morning, 8-9am, followed by lessons until 11am. Of course, it was hard to have lessons as the girls were all over the place giving cards, flowers, presents to their teachers to show their appreciation of their teachers. I think the teachers pretty much gave up trying to conduct lessons. Hahaha. When I was walking around trying to get my counsellees, the school girls (not my counsellees) greeted me with "Happy Teachers' Day". It was really nice of them.

One of my counsellees made me a balloon doggy. Unfortunately, the "doggy" didn't survive longer than an hour once I brought it home. It has already been dismantled by Juliane, lol. :P Another counsellee gave me a red embroidered cushion. Some of the counsellees also came to look for me to wish me "Happy Teachers' Day" even though I am not counselling them today. I was really touched by their gestures. It meant that they are appreciative of my help and that they know I am there for them. A card from one of the counsellees said it all and really made my day:

"Thank you for giving me bags of advice on different problems I've had! They always work! Thanks for being a great listening ear! Thanks for being there for me."
