Belated Teacher's Day Wishes

I received my belated Teacher's Day wishes from school today. :)
It brought a huge smile to my face and a warm fuzziness to my heart. :) Despite being only a part-time school counsellor, I have not been forgotten every Teacher's Day by the students for the last 10 years.
Thank you!

Happy Teachers' Day 2013

Happy Teachers' Day 2013 to everyone who have taught me one thing or another.

To my teachers in SCGS Primary, in SCGS Secondary, in NJC, in UQ, in NIE: thank you for passing on the knowledge and values.
To my former students in SCGS: thank you for teaching me the joy of lifelong learning (you girls spurred me on to do my Masters!).
To my former colleagues in SCGS and MOE HQ: thank you for showing me and teaching me how to deal with the world.
To my current colleagues and friends in NIE: thank you for teaching me about research and stats.
To my family, especially my mother: thank you for teaching me that there is more out there and that I can be anything I choose/want to do/be (which encouraged me to do my PhD!).
To all my friends (local and overseas): thank you for teaching me how to be a better friend.

To all who have taught me something, here's wishing you a Happy Teachers' Day!!

Teachers' Day Presents

The girls asked me for advice on what teachers like as Teachers' Day presents. Based on my personal experience as a teacher, I love things that are practical and meaningful. I told them I loved receiving red pens and I also loved receiving hand-made stuff, like cards, etc. That's exactly what they prepared as presents for their teachers. A pair of red pens and a hand-made card for each of their teachers! Lol. :)
PS. I also informed the girls that if the present a teacher received is above a particular value, he/she has to either return the present or declare to MOE (and MOE will decide what's to be done with the present). Otherwise, he/she might be perceived as receiving bribes because teachers are civil servants. So it's better to spare their teachers the extra paper works. This is little known to parents and students but known to all teachers and civil servants.

Teachers' Day Celebration

Schools all over Singapore celebrated Teachers' Day 2012 today. The actual day falls on the 1 st Friday of September which happens to be during the one week September break for this year. Thus, the earlier celebration in schools this year. The girls came home from school telling me that their teachers were very happy to receive their presents and the girls are really happy that their teachers liked their presents. :)

Changes

In Singapore, Children's Day is usually celebrated on 1 October, with that day being a school holiday for the school children. However with effect from 2011, Children's Day will now be celebrated on the first Friday of October.
The change has been brought about due to feedback from schools, and parents that Primary 6 children, who usually sit for their PSLE in early October, could not enjoy their last Children's Day which falls on 1 October. Now with the new change, Primary 6 children could enjoy their Children's Day holiday after their PSLE in peace. :)

*On another change: Teacher's Day school holiday has also been changed, with effect from 2011, from 1 September to the first Friday of September.

Happy Teacher's Day 2011

It's Teacher's Day. The girls gave their presents to their teachers yesterday as their school celebrated Teacher's Day yesterday. To show their appreciation for their teachers, Juliane bought "Best Teacher certificates" for her teachers while Marieann made bookmarks for her teachers. :)
Every year this time, I would also visit my former lecturers to thank them for giving me the gift of knowledge. :)

Happy Teacher's Day

Happy Teacher's Day to all. :)

I met a former student of mine in the library today. We both turned back to look after we passed each other. It is kind of scary to have your former P4 student now at university. It shows how old I am! Lol. :P It was definitely heart-warming that she remembered me for the Children's Day gift I made for her class. For one Children's Day, I had painted little tiles for each and everyone of them in my form class as Children's Day gift. It is nice to be remembered. :)

Happy Teachers' Day 2008

I just want to say Happy Teachers' Day to everyone who have taught me in one way or another, be it in school, at work or at play.

I believe everyone is a teacher. There are many things that we learn, not just from our teachers, we also learn from our parents, siblings, friends and even from strangers too. There are many things that we learn, not just in school, in university, we also learn at work, at play and even when nothing is happening.

So to everyone I know, Happy Teachers' Day. You have taught me a thing or two even though you might not have realised it. Thanks! :)

Teachers' Day Celebration

The school I am counselling at celebrated Teachers' Day today instead of tomorrow. The girls were dismissed earlier today at 11 am so as to give the teachers an earlier break too to enjoy a Teachers' Day buffet lunch at Royal Plaza on Scotts Hotel. Because of the earlier dismissal time, I also benefitted, can take a break as there are less girls to counsel for today. :)

There was the teachers' day celebration programme in the morning, 8-9am, followed by lessons until 11am. Of course, it was hard to have lessons as the girls were all over the place giving cards, flowers, presents to their teachers to show their appreciation of their teachers. I think the teachers pretty much gave up trying to conduct lessons. Hahaha. When I was walking around trying to get my counsellees, the school girls (not my counsellees) greeted me with "Happy Teachers' Day". It was really nice of them.

One of my counsellees made me a balloon doggy. Unfortunately, the "doggy" didn't survive longer than an hour once I brought it home. It has already been dismantled by Juliane, lol. :P Another counsellee gave me a red embroidered cushion. Some of the counsellees also came to look for me to wish me "Happy Teachers' Day" even though I am not counselling them today. I was really touched by their gestures. It meant that they are appreciative of my help and that they know I am there for them. A card from one of the counsellees said it all and really made my day:

"Thank you for giving me bags of advice on different problems I've had! They always work! Thanks for being a great listening ear! Thanks for being there for me."
