Happy Children's Day 2016!
This is Juliane's last year of celebrating Children's Day. Why time flies so fast?!
Enjoy your last year as a child, Juliane. :)

Happy Children's Day 2015

(Source: www.blogwatch.com.ng)
It is Children's Day today. (It used to be 1 October but has been changed to accommodate the PSLE dates). I took Juliane out for lunch to celebrate Children's Day.
After lunch, we walked around the Botanic Gardens. We eventually ended up at The Library of Botany and Horticulture. We looked at the plant cuttings and Juliane ended reading a book. :)

Childhood Memories: Sweets & Toys

Isetan is having Children's Day Celebration from 27 September till 9 October 2014.
It brings forth many happy memories of my childhood with its large display of sweets and toys of yesteryears! :)
The huge array of simple toys that gave us many hours of pleasure :)
Marbles, five stones, card games, tops, washable tattoos, etc
Chinese chess, pick-up sticks, wind-up vehicles, pull-back vehicles, etc
A wide selection of candies, sweets and snacks :)
Biscuits and cookies in tins :)
Sodas in glass bottles :)
Look at the size of that White Rabbit milk candy! :P
Can you remember playing with and eating these? :)
I think our childhood of yesteryears are so much more hands-on, interactive and fun as compared to children of today lol. :)

Happy Children's Day 2014!
I wish my girls and all children a day full of fun and cheer! :)

This is Marieann's last Children's Day. :) Next year she will be celebrating Youth Day lol.
This is Juliane's last day for enjoyment before her examinations next week.

Unforgettable Cavalia

I got my girls and myself a special treat - to watch Cavalia!
Cavalia is a Children's Day present for the girls, a post-PSLE reward for Marieann and a de-stressing treat for myself. However, Marieann was running a low-grade fever. :( I decided to let her rest and it was just Juliane and I going to the show tonight.
We arrived just before 7pm, took a few photos and launched straight into shopping of Cavalia merchandise before our show at 7:30pm haha. :P
Just before we entered the big tent for the Cavalia show
From the moment Cavalia started till it ended, it was pure magic! :) The acrobatics, the aerial stunts, the music, the horses all integrated seamlessly together to bring forth a breathtakingly beautiful, haunting, and dreamlike show. My jaws dropped in awe when the horses first appeared. They are so beautiful! :)
Show about to start soon :)
The end of the show. No photography during the show.

Getting the performers to autograph on my Cavalia programme
Beautiful photos of horses surrounding the big tent
I went a little crazy with my shopping haha. Spent about S$250 :P
I definitely won't forget Cavalia anytime soon. In fact, it brought back my childhood memories of circus and animals and also my first horse ride. :) I thought I enjoyed Cavalia a lot more than Juliane did lol. I doubt the children nowadays know how to appreciate such shows.
PS. I also had a pleasant surprise at Cavalia, I met my friend and former colleague, Yee Zher and his lovely family. His son is

Happy Children's Day 2012

Happy Children's Day!

It is also "Bring Your Child to Work" Day at my workplace today. I was initially hesitant about letting the girls come to my workplace because their exams start next Monday! But I relented as it is Children's Day and they did deserve some fun. (BUT I also got their promise that they will work hard for their exams lol :P )
The day started at 8.45am with registration and the girls each received a goodie bag with a book on Science facts (Marieann got Animal Planet's Incredible Journeys: Amazing Animal Migrations and Juliane received discover science's Apes and Monkeys), a hand-held battery operated fan, a pen, a bag of popcorn, and a bottle of mineral water. Following after registration was the Book Exchange activity. I bought new books for the girls to bring to this particular activity as they couldn't bear to part with any of their books. They managed to pick up books that they liked. :) The other parents were also present with their children during the registration and book exchange activity. By 9.30am, all the children who were divided into different groups, proceeded to the Math laboratory for Math and Arts Activity.

Lunch was at 11.45am and I met up with the girls again. After their lunch, I brought them to the Prologue stall that was set-up especially for today. I bought them each a book. Story-telling by Adeline Foo and Stephanie Wong was next on the programme. I told the girls that I was classmate with Adeline Foo at NJC but they didn't believe me. Sigh. So I stayed till Adeline Foo arrived. Yes, Adeline did recognise me and we chatted for a while before I left (back to work!). Oh yes, Juliane managed to ask Adeline Foo to autograph on her Amos Lee Book 2. :) Movie screening of Kung Fu Panda was after the Story-telling.
The girls and their Mckkies lunch (not exactly the heathiest lunch choice)
Overall, the girls really enjoyed themselves with the activities, the goodies they received and the new books they bought. They said that they want to attend "Bring Your Child to Work Day again next year. :)

Children's Day 2011

Today is Children's Day. The girls were enjoying a carefree day at home, almost for one of them. Well, Marieann had Chinese tuition in the afternoon.

It is also "Family Week - Bring Your Child to Work Day" today at my work place. There were activities planned for the children of the staff from 9am - 5pm. Unfortunately Marieann has her tuition so I couldn't bring both girls to work. It was unfair to bring only Juliane. Equal misery policy had to apply here lol.

Changes

In Singapore, Children's Day is usually celebrated on 1 October, with that day being a school holiday for the school children. However with effect from 2011, Children's Day will now be celebrated on the first Friday of October.
The change has been brought about due to feedback from schools, and parents that Primary 6 children, who usually sit for their PSLE in early October, could not enjoy their last Children's Day which falls on 1 October. Now with the new change, Primary 6 children could enjoy their Children's Day holiday after their PSLE in peace. :)

*On another change: Teacher's Day school holiday has also been changed, with effect from 2011, from 1 September to the first Friday of September.

Happy Children's Day

Happy Children's Day to all the kids, especially to the kid in each and everyone of us who are over 12 years old lol. :)

As I can't drive, it is hard to bring the kids to places. Never mind, I will compensate them tomorrow as the father can drive. But as a special treat, I let them play with my iPad haha. :P For those couple of minutes, they were definitely happy. Happy children haha. :)
