Go Your Own Way by Lisse

I recently started watching A Discovery of Witches tv series. The series is my favourite genre of supernatural mix with drama and romance. I will start reading the books once Marieann had finished reading them. This is not a new song but I heard it when watching A Discovery of Witches and it got stuck in my head.

Happy 20th Anniversary BtVS!

It is the 20th anniversary of Buffy the Vampire Slayer today! I cannot believe it was 20 years ago that I first watched Buffy. It seems like it was only yesterday haha.
I know how I will celebrate 20 years of Buffy. A marathon of Buffy Seasons 1-7 and Angel Seasons 1-5!!!

Childhood Memories: Viper vs Raider

"After the destruction of the Twelve Colonies of Mankind, the last major fighter carrier leads a makshift fugitive fleet on a desperate search for the legendary planet Earth."

I grew up watching the original Battlestar Galactica tv series and I loved it.
I couldn't contain my excitement when I saw the Colonial Viper and Cylon Raider in a toy shop. The toys sure brought back fond childhood memories.

What a Shocker!

The Walking Dead Season 7 is back tonight. The last season left off with a cliffhanger. We all know someone is going to die. But what happened tonight is a real shocker!! :O Instead of just one death, there were two and it was who was killed... Life is never going to be the same again.
Wondering how to break the news to my mother who is now in Xiamen and couldn't catch up on the tv series. I bet she didn't see it coming.

She is My Daughter! :)

During last weekend, Marieann came to me excitedly and pulled me from the living room into their grandparents' room to watch a programme.

Marieann: Mama, there's this really nice show on tv and you will like it.
Me: Really?
Marieann: Yes, got strange strange things. But it is a very old show.
Me: Err, ok.

When I saw the programme, I couldn't help but had a HUGE smile on my face. She's watching...

The X Files! Haha. It remains one of my all-time favourite sci-fi shows on tv! :)

Mareiann: Mama, you know this show?
Me: OF COURSE! The X-Files, Agent Fox Mulder and Agent Dana Scully! :)

Marieann is my daughter! Trust her to have similar interests as I do - mystery, sci-fi, horror, supernatural, thriller. Since that weekend, we have been watching The X-Files together and discussing about the episodes lol. :P

Sherlock vs Sherlock II

Almost one and a half years ago, my girls and I had  a disagreement on who is the best Sherlock - Sherlock Holmes US or Sherlock Holmes UK. See Sherlock vs Sherlock blog post on 29 July 2012.
Fast forward to today, my girls now agree with me that Sherlock Holmes UK is the best. No, I didn't arm-twist them to agree with me! They found out through their own. I guess being a year older, do made a difference for the girls. They now appreciate the humour and the intellectual dialogue in Sherlock Holmes UK. Now they are the ones telling me what's happening in Sherlock Holmes Season 3 lol. :)

Multitasking

This is what I saw Marieann doing this afternoon during her free time after completing her homework.
Playing Minecraft on one half of the screen and watching Sherlock Holmes Season 3 Episode 1 on the other  half! I was astonished by how well she could actually "multitask". She was building her mansion in Minecraft and was also following the storyline in Sherlock Holmes! How I know? Because I would throw her a question here and there about Sherlock Holmes lol. And she could tell me what's happening!
I wonder what happens if one half of the screen is online Science/English/Math/Chinese exercise and the other half is Minecraft. Will she be able to multitask as well?

I Wouldn't Go In There

Both my girls and I have taken to watching "I Wouldn't Go In There" (IWGIT) on National Geographic channel every Friday night. At first glance, you would think that IWGIT is a typical paranormal documentary reality television series that aims more to scare you and give you more questions than answers like "Are there ghosts?", e.g. "Scariest Place on Earth". But IWGIT is much more than that, there is a little horror factor in the beginning when each haunted site is introduced but the horror would soon fade away to curiosity and the desire to learn the truth, for me that is.
What first drawn me to the IWGIT series is that the locations of the supposedly haunted places are all in Asia, places closer to home and more relatable in a way. :P
Second thing that hooked me to the IWGIT series hosted by Robert Joe (RJ) is the way RJ tracks down the often untold but true stories hidden behind the most notorious haunted sites in Asia. RJ's working hypothesis for each haunted site is that there is something else much more real (and terrifying), beneath the tales of haunting, waiting to be uncovered. I enjoyed RJ's use of combination of gumshoe detective work and modern technology to track down what really happened at each "haunted" site. Often, RJ would discover that there is a horrifying event, such as incidents during a war, which people chose to forget or have forgotten with time and the rumours of hauntings would begin for the "haunted" location because people have forgotten what really happened there and only knew vaguely that it is not a good place to go to.
To me, IWGIT series is good in teaching my girls that sometimes there is often more to be uncovered that what is widely believed. In other words, do not believe blindly what you are told. To borrow a phrase from a long gone series "The X-Files", The Truth Is Out There! You only have to look for it. :) The IWGIT series is also good in teaching them that evidence is important, always substantiate what they say with evidence. (Yes, occupational hazard of a researcher lol :P). For those two reasons alone, that's why I did not stop my girls from watching IWGIT and I would also explain to them as the show progressed so to correct any misconceptions.
I personally think that IWGIT series is educational (and does give a little kick of excitement - the supposed haunting) and I hope that NGC will make a second series. :)

Catch-up TV

Thank goodness for catch-up TV! :)
I recently discovered catch-up TV on xinmsn. Ok, I know I am really BEHIND the times lol. :P Thank goodness for catch-up TV, I have been able to catch-up with episodes of Ice Adonis (Korean drama on Channel U) that I missed parts of, due to my long journey home from work. :)
I love you, Catch-up TV! :)

H2O: Just Add Water

Marieann and Juliane are currently watching H2O: Just Add Water, an 2006-2010 Australian television programme for children, pre-teens and teenagers on tv (can't remember which channel it is showing on). The story revolves round three teenage girls who accidentally gained mermaids' powers and their new lives. I happened to catch it one evening and I didn't mind watching it! Lol. The theme song "No Ordinary Girl" is quite catchy as well. :) There were only three seasons of H2O: Just Add Water but the production of a spin-off has started in 2012. It is now showing Season 2. I recognised the landmarks in the show because it was filmed in Gold Coast, Queensland as well as two familiar faces from the show - Claire Holt (Rebekah in The Vampire Diaries) and Craig Horner (Richard Cypher in Legend of the Seeker). Goodness, they look so young then lol.

Bones 7

I am really excited that Bones Season 7 is coming back on television soon. However, I was too excited that I remembered the time of Bones 7 premiere wrongly. I thought it was tonight and was waiting since 9.30pm but nothing! It was only when I saw the trailer for Bones 7 premiere that I realised I was 1 week too early. Lol. :P I can't wait for next Monday! :)

Buffy and Angel

We were at 313 Somerset for some dessert after our movie on Saturday. We happened to see Harris Planerds having a sale - 2 items get 20% off, 3 items get 30% off, ..., 6 items and more 60% off. That can be quite a substantial saving, especially when graphic novels and comics are not cheap. The girls and I went into the store to have a browse. I happened to see Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 and Angel Season 6 comics. Pretty thrilled to see the continuation of both series in comics after the end of their tv run. :) Oh, Jess Whedon was involved in the writing of both Buffy and Angel comics too. :) I bought the collected editions volumes 1-3, 5-7 of Buffy Season 8 and collected editions volumes 1-4 of Angel Season 6. It was a huge saving! Lol. However, I am still missing Buffy Season 8 volume 4 and 8 as well as Angel Season 6 volume 5. Hopefully Planerds will restock the missing volumes. :)
