First Visit

This is the first time I visited Physical, Sports and Outdoor Education Branch since I left MOE. I was there attending a seminar and managed to meet up with some ex-colleagues from MOE.

ERAS Seminar 2015

By chance, I managed to replace a colleague who couldn't make for an ERAS seminar that he signed up for. I am really glad that I attended the seminar, The Politics of Distraction vs The Politics of Collaborative Action given by Prof John Hattie. It was an eye opener and Prof Hattie was an engaging speaker/ presenter.:)

Assessment Seminar

I attended an Assessment Seminar this afternoon on the topics of self-assessment and feedback. Both of which I am interested in as I am embarking on a research on these two topics. The seminar gave me good insights.

Privileged

I feel privileged to have been able to listen to two assessment seminars/ talks by two important names in assessment. :) I have been so caught up with the mundane, sometimes brainless but time-consuming admin work that I have not been reading up on my research interest recently. I am really glad for the time-out to listen and learn of their insights about formative assessment and self-assessment. :)

Seminar + Reunion

I attended a MOE Seminar on primary school education today. It is the first time I am attending it alone as I am the only one left in the original research team. It is strange but at the same time, exciting as I am standing on my own.

Besides attending the seminar for work purpose, it is also a reunion with my former colleagues from MOE HQ as well as from schools. It is really great catching up with them. :)

Learning

I was invited to a MOE Seminar on assessment. Apart from learning about MOE's latest initiative in assessment at the seminar, I also learnt about how former colleagues from schools and from MOE HQ are doing as I caught up with them at the seminar lol. :)

Work Plan Seminar

I attended the MOE Work Plan Seminar 2009 at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. I was interested to know what this year's strategic thrusts would be for the rest of the year and the following year to come.

There are two main thrusts: language instruction development and teacher professional development. Somehow I am not too surprised because there have been indications of things going this way. But I was a little disappointed too as I was expecting something more, something that would really make me sit upright and be inspired. I guess I can't have surprises every year.

Writing

This one-week break is the best time for catching up on some rest, catching up with friends as well as learning new things.

Today I attended a seminar on Academic Writing. I really enjoyed the session. The presenter is a senior academic with lots of experience in writing. Her presentation was really interesting and informative. I have picked up a number of good tips for writing. Hopefully I can put what I have learnt today into good use soon. :)
