Family from Afar II

We met up with Marieann's godfamily for dinner at Mr Prata, Evans Road. It's our second gathering with them despite their tight schedule, trying to take in the sights and food in four days lol. :P
We had a blast eating our prata while Evelyn and I were also reminiscing about our days at MOE HQ and all the wonderful colleagues we had! :) Those were the good old days. :)
Marieann and her godma Evelyn, godfather Ken and godsis Pippa
We hope you have a safe flight home to Dubai and hope to see you again soon, either in Dubai or back in Singapore. :)

Family from Afar

I met up with Marieann's godfamily for dessert at 7:30pm at Paul, Tanglin Mall. The girls were supposed to come along with me but they fell asleep.
I met up with Evelyn, Pippa and Ken, had delicious tarts and had a great catching up. We made our way back to my place after dessert to surprise the girls. :P
The girls received pressies, as did I. :) They were thrilled with their bracelets and I with my jewellery roll which will come in handy for my travels. :)
Our wefie
A single meeting is not enough. We arranged to meet up tomorrow night for prata dinner!

Eat, Drink & Relax

That's theme for tonight's dinner organised by my godsister (she's goddaughter to my parents since she was 3 or 4 years old) and her family. :) It has been years since her mother has had a dinner party for close friends and family. The private dinner event was held at Salta Argentina Restaurant. It was a buffet with the dishes customised. The grilled meat dishes (chicken, lamb, beef) were pretty tender and juicy (heard so from others who ate beef and lamb :P). Loved the grilled vegetables and sausages too. Totally loved the chocolate and caramel cake! :) There were plenty of red wine and champagne going round for those who drink and juices for the non-drinkers.
Our table! :)
It was good catching up with my godsister, her husband and her family as well as my former Chinese tutor. :) It was indeed eat, drink and relax! :)

Family from Near

It has been a while since we last met up wth Juliane's godfamily. We decided to have our usual dim sum lunch at East Ocean Teochew Restaurant. It was nice catching up with Anthony, Ivy and Kuan Ling. The topics of interest were about the recession in Singapore, and the crash of stocks and shares, lol. Boy, am I glad that I have never been interested in playing with stocks and shares haha. :P

With the children being older now, there were more interaction between them. :) Malcolm, being the oldest, was teaching the girls this Math game using fingers. It was a rather interesting and challenging game, even the adults lost to Malcolm hahaha.

Family from Afar

Marieann's Godmama Evelyn, Godsister Pippa and Godpapa Kenneth were in Singapore for a very short trip - 3 days. We met up today, their last day in Singapore before they go back to Dubai.

We met up with them at Mandarin hotel where they were staying. It was extremely nice to see them again! The girls were thrilled to see them and I was happy to see them so soon again, especially after I attended Evelyn and Kenneth's wedding just six months ago in Melbourne, Australia. :) We had light dinner at the business lounge lol. It was a great 3 hours of fun just relaxing, enjoying the great company among family and chatting away. We kept up to date with what's happening with each other's lives and there was no lack of laughter. :) There are more chances of meeting up with Marieann's godfamily as Kenneth's work now brings him to Singapore more frequently, at least once a year. Hopefully, the girls' father might get a chance to go to Dubai for a business trip so that we can tag along and visit Evelyn, Pippa and Kenneth, haha. :P

What's a gathering without photos?! :)

The girls using their tote bag pressies as helmets, haha.

Working Day

Despite having slept only at 5am, I woke up at 9am this morning after less than 4 hours of sleep. Surprisingly, my mind was pretty alert and I could start working on my slides again, lol. I managed to work on the notes for about 15 slides before I had to get the girls ready to go out for lunch. We arrived at our favourite Yum Cha place, East Ocean Teochew Restaurant close to 11:30am. It is the usual gathering of our yum cha kakis, KL and Juliane's godfamily although it has been a while since our last yum cha session, lol. :P There is the usual chatting, catching up with one another and of course, the eating. :) Our Yum Cha sessions will be much more regular from now on because Juliane's godfamily has returned to Singapore permanently after staying close to 2 years in England. :)

After lunch, the girls and I were dropped back home while the girls' father went to book the tickets for our Hong Kong trip in late October. He is the one in the family who is most excited about the trip because he loves HK, after his first love, his car.

I continued to work on my slides but I did have an hour's nap in between. Otherwise, I would be too tired lol. :P I managed to finish the notes for my slides in the evening. :) Yeah, one down! Another to go - the book review. I have 2 more chapters to read. Give me another 2 hours, I should be able to finish the book review. I think I will be able to sleep at my usual time tonight, probably at 2am. Don't be so shocked haha. That is my usual bedtime lol. :P

Birthday Dinner at Cafe Fahrenheit

On Saturday 1 March, Juliane's Kai Ye, Anthony brought us to this new cafe, Cafe Fahrenheit to celebrate Juliane's 4th birthday.

Cafe Fahrenheit is newly opened, just before the Chinese New Year. It is situated within the residential enclave at Eng Kong Terrace, near Toh Tuck Road, off Jalan Jurong Kechil (Upper Bukit Timah). This delightful cafe specialises in contemporary Italian and French cuisine.

Anthony had the chef to specially prepare a private dinner menu for us. Wah, so nice! :)

For the first course, we had the Signature French Onion Soup ($5). In a rich, nut brown broth, the onions were mellow and nicely caramelised. Unlike some other onion soups that I have had, this onion soup was sweet, rich in flavour but not oily at all. There was also a piece of toasted french bread with cheese melted over it placed on the soup. It's a mini meal on its own, lol. I enjoyed the soup and so did Juliane who finished the entire bowl of soup. :)

While we were enjoying our soup, we were given a Honey Roasted Duck Breast with French Bean Salad ($10) on the house. :D The salad was dressed with dark vinegar and balsamic vinegar. There was a generous sprinkling of walnuts and sun-dried tomatoes in the salad. The salad was really nice with the right blend of sour, sweet and savoury.

For the second course, we had Pan-fried Scallop & Crab Roulette with Homemade Basil & Pesto Fettucini cooked in clarified Sage-butter. The fettucini was al dente and its taste was refreshing. The pan-fried scallop & crab roulette was a delight, with the flavour of the sea. The lemon zest made the dish even more aromatic and added a kick to it. We all enjoyed this dish very much. Again, Juliane finished the whole dish!

For the third course, we had dessert. :)
The girls had Valrhona Chocolate Teddy Bears. They loved it.

The adults had the various desserts and all were yummy and decadent, lol.
Valrhona Chocolate Fondant ($10) - it is a rich chocolate lava cake topped with a scoop of ice cream.

Velvet Chocolate & Banana ($8) - chocolate ball in banana sauce and banana pieces, with pieces of crumble. A perfect combination of sweetness! (I only took a tiny, tiny bit of chocolate, lol :P)

Strawberry & Honey Star ($8) - honey stars in cream, topped with fresh strawberries and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. This one was a hit with the girls too.

Bailey's Panna Cotta ($7) - panna cotta topped with a layer of corn flakes soaked with bailey and bailey foam (I think). This one had lots of after kick, lol. But it was still delicious.

A-La-Misu ($7) - it is tiramisu with a difference. It was accompanied with crunchy meringue like biscuits and vanilla ice cream.

Lemon Cheese Cake - a rich lemon cheese cake. :)

After our desserts, we had tasty biscotti to accompany our coffees and tea.

We had a great dinner and really enjoyed ourselves. The dishes were delicious and unique and so were the desserts. We will definitely be back at Cafe Fahrenheit, for it's Sunday Brunch soon. :)

Besides, being able to design a menu for your private functions, Cafe Fahrenheit's a la carte menu offers salads, soups, pasta & risotto, sandwiches, main courses, desserts which they change every two months or so. The prices are pretty reasonable, range from $10 to $18 for light meals and main courses. You can go to their website for a look: http://www.cafefahrenheit.com.sg/ Although the cafe is not very big, while we were there from 7pm to 8:30pm, the place was packed with families and youngsters. Goes to show that the food must be good, lol. :) Go try this place if you can.

Cake and tea, coffee and chocolate

We had an early dinner and went to Paragon to get a wedding gift from Liu Li Gong Fang. After getting the gift, we decided to go to Bakerzin for dessert.

The girls were really happy to be out after being cooped up at home for the past week. We ordered four slices of cake (2 different chocolate and 2 different strawberry), rose bud tea for my mother, coffee for husband and vanilla chocolate with marshmallow for me.

Yah! We are going to have dessert!

The girls loving their cakes.

My vanilla chocolate with marshmallows. Real rich and sweet!

We were here at this particular Bakerzin once, with Juliane's godparents and son, and another friend in early January before her godparents relocated to England (due to work). That little girl sure has a good memory. She took one look round the cafe and asked, "Where is Kai Ye (Godfather in Cantonese), Kai Ma (Godmother in Cantonese) and Kor Kor (Brother in Hokkien)?". So Anthony, Ivy and Malcolm, Juliane does remember all of you and have often asked about you guys whenever we dined at places where we used to meet. Here are her photos. Hope to see you guys soon.
