Happy Chinese New Year 2016: Day 2

On the second day of CNY, visitors usually come to our place for these two dishes which are available for the whole day from late morning to night - Taiwanese style Braised Pork Bun and Hockchew Red Wine Chicken Mee Sua!
大年初二,客人特地上我家来吃这两道菜 - 台式割包(新加坡所谓的扣肉包)和福州红糟酒鸡肉面线!

The second day of CNY at our place is open house. My mother loves having guests over. She loves cooking for and feeding family and friends, not just during CNY, all the time! Feel free to come! :)

Happy Chinese New Year 2016: Day 1

Happy Chinese New Year! 新年快乐! From the ladies of my family - my mother, Juliane and I (Marieann is at that awkward age where she doesn't want to be in photos.)
Finally persuaded Marieann to take the annual CNY family photo in the afternoon lol. Happy Chinese New Year from all of us!

2nd Day of CNY 2015

We always have friends visiting us on the 2nd day of CNY for our signature dishes - Hockchew red wine chicken soup with mee sua and my mother's Taiwanese-style braised pork with buns (扣肉包) which were served throughout the day. :) This year, my mother also cooked her glutinous rice (糯米饭) and a new salad dish consisting of thinly sliced capsicums (raw) and pear mixed with apple cider vinegar. :)
Looks like our waist lines will expand lol.

2nd Day of CNY 2014

For the 2nd day of CNY, we stayed home as we usually have friends visiting us for CNY and for our signature dishes lol. As usual, my mother prepared our Hockchew red wine chicken soup with mee sua and her Taiwanese-style braised pork with buns which were served throughout the day. :) This year, we only had three families visiting us but we were busy entertaining from 10:30am until 6pm! Tiring. :P
Three other families couldn't make it today but have already made appointments to visit on Friday 7 February for CNY visitation as well as for the food lol. Looks like we will be having mee sua and braised pork buns twice within the week! :P

Chinese New Year 2014

Happy Chinese New Year!
May good health, good luck, good fortune and great success be yours in the Year of the Horse.
祝大家: 新年快乐, 心想事成, 马到成功!
With no extended families here (both my paternal and maternal side), we only had five places to visit on the first day of Chinese New Year - the temple (to pray for blessings for the year), my grandaunt, an elderly family friend, my primary school teacher and another elderly family friend. :) Pretty relaxing for us. :)

Plan B

We were supposed to go to Wulai, an Aboriginal Village today. However as it was still wet weather, we went to Plan B, wet weather plan. Otherwise it would be a similar experience as with Yangmingshan National Park.

After breakfast at 9:30am, we took the Taipei Metro from Huzhou station which is just 3 minutes away from our hotel to Neihu station. We went to the Huguang Open-air Market. It was definitely an eye-opening experience for the girls. The wet market in Taipei is different from that in Singapore. You have both the stalls selling meat, vegetables, seafood, etc and stalls selling clothes, bags, kitchen wares, etc right next to each other, and even have stalls selling cooked food interspersed in between them.

We went for early lunch at 11:30am at a Japanese restaurant near the Huguang Market. We ordered the spicy ramen with extra bowl of ramen, charsiew ramen with extra bowl of pork don and omurice with pork cutlet. Everything tasted fantastic. :)

After lunch, we went to visit a relative who lived nearby, followed by a visit to the Miniatures Museum of Taiwan and to Hsimending. We enjoyed looking at all the miniature houses, etc. We were in awe of the incredible attention to the details. :)

I haven't never really visited Hsimending all those times I was in Taiwan. Goodness, it is crowded even on a weekday! The girls bought some hair accessories before we went to browse at Eslite Bookstore. After that, we had early dinner at 5pm at yet another Japanese restaurant haha. There are plenty of good Japanese restaurants in Taiwan. :)

An excellent Japanese restaurant in terms of taste and price :)

After dinner, we went to visit my mother's old neighbour and family who watched my brother and I grow up. It was fun watching the amazement on their faces to see that I haven't changed at all lol. :P

CNY 2010: Day 2

It is another long day lol.

For today, we stayed home as people came to visit us. We had relatives who came over for lunch and dinner. It is slightly less tiring than yesterday, the 1st day of the Chinese New Year because we didn't have to go out visiting but still tiring nonetheless.

I am so looking forward to my bed lol.

Chinese New Year 2010: Year of the Tiger

Happy Chinese New Year, Dear Family and Friends!
May Good Health and Good Fortune be yours throughout the new year.

We were up and out of the place by 8:15am. We first went to the temple to give thanks for the new year, followed by visiting of our family, the oldest and most senior members and family friends. I don't have many family here as most of them are either in Taiwan (maternal side) or in Malaysia (paternal side). But there were still quite a few families for us to visit. We managed to get home just after 12:15pm because Marieann wanted to watch her TV programme "Cafe 13". TV addict haha.

We got a bit of rest before visitors started coming to our place for visiting. It was one family after another from 2pm until 6pm. We went over to my aunt's place for dinner and visiting and later at 8pm, we went to an old family friend's place for visiting.

By the time we reached home and settled down for the day, it was close to 11pm. It has been a long day, tiring but nice as I have been able to catch up with family and friends alike. :) I better sleep soon as tomorrow will be another long day lol.

PS Happy Valentine's Day as well.
