Happy Chinese New Year 2016: Day 2

On the second day of CNY, visitors usually come to our place for these two dishes which are available for the whole day from late morning to night - Taiwanese style Braised Pork Bun and Hockchew Red Wine Chicken Mee Sua!
大年初二,客人特地上我家来吃这两道菜 - 台式割包(新加坡所谓的扣肉包)和福州红糟酒鸡肉面线!

The second day of CNY at our place is open house. My mother loves having guests over. She loves cooking for and feeding family and friends, not just during CNY, all the time! Feel free to come! :)

2nd Day of CNY 2015

We always have friends visiting us on the 2nd day of CNY for our signature dishes - Hockchew red wine chicken soup with mee sua and my mother's Taiwanese-style braised pork with buns (扣肉包) which were served throughout the day. :) This year, my mother also cooked her glutinous rice (糯米饭) and a new salad dish consisting of thinly sliced capsicums (raw) and pear mixed with apple cider vinegar. :)
Looks like our waist lines will expand lol.

2nd Day of CNY 2014

For the 2nd day of CNY, we stayed home as we usually have friends visiting us for CNY and for our signature dishes lol. As usual, my mother prepared our Hockchew red wine chicken soup with mee sua and her Taiwanese-style braised pork with buns which were served throughout the day. :) This year, we only had three families visiting us but we were busy entertaining from 10:30am until 6pm! Tiring. :P
Three other families couldn't make it today but have already made appointments to visit on Friday 7 February for CNY visitation as well as for the food lol. Looks like we will be having mee sua and braised pork buns twice within the week! :P

Drizzly Day 2 of CNY 2013

It is Day 2 of CNY 2013 and the wet weather has not let up. It drizzled on and off through out the day. We didn't go visiting because it is open house today at our place. Family and friends came over for our Hockchew red wine chicken soup mee sua. :)

Happy Chinese New Year 2012 II

The second day of CNY is always the busiest for my parents in any CNY because family and friends would come to our place for the Hockchew Red Wine Chicken Soup mee sua. Not that my parents mind, they love cooking and they love the company. :)

The girls were happy collecting their Ang Pows (red packets or also known as Ya Sui Qian). Ya Sui Qian means money that can suppress devils and keep kids in peace and safe for a whole year. It is a tradition in my family. Every time, they received ya sui qian, they would place it into their pillow case so that they could sleep on them. I still do the same with mine lol. We would be sleeping on our Ang Pows until the end of the Chinese New Year period (15 days). :)

Mee Sua

Today, my mother's friends came over for lunch. They wanted to have our Hockchew Red Wine Chicken mee sua. In the evening, my cousin and his wife came over for dinner lol.
My mother will be going back to Taiwan for a couple of months so she has been inviting family and friends over for the mee sua and her other specialities like glutinous rice, chicken rice, and many others.

Happy Chinese New Year: Day 2

It is the second day of Chinese New Year. It is the busiest time of CNY for us. We have family friends and family coming to visit us as well as coming to our place for our Hockchew Red Wine Chicken with Mee Sua lol.

My parents were up really early in the morning to prepare the Red Wine Chicken soup. My mother also prepared her Braised Pork Buns. The mee sua could only be prepared when the guests have arrived, bowl by bowl. By 10am+, our family and friends started arriving. They had to eat in three batches because our dining table could only seat 10 people at most, lol. :P

In the afternoon, I went to visit my former SCGS primary teacher, Miss Olive Tan. I would visit her every CNY with my girls. I also met my former SCGS secondary teacher, Miss Wee at Miss Tan's place. It was nice catching up with them about the old school days. Thank goodness, I was a quiet and kuai girl in school so no complaints about me from them, hahaha. :P

After dinner, I dropped over at my friends' place to keep their cat, BC company and to make sure he has enough food and water. It is the least I could do to help them during this difficult time. BC was glad to see me! That is nice. He was meowing away at me when he saw me and was brushing against my leg, lol. :) I was working on my notebook in the study and BC kept me company too by staying in the study for the two hours plus I was there. BC is such an adorable cat. I miss him a lot too. Wish I can take him home with me, lol.

Yuan Hsiao 元宵 Gathering

Today is Yuan Hsiao (the 15th of First month) which is the last day of CNY and it is also known as the Chinese Valentine's Day. We had another gathering at our place, a smaller one. My parents' goddaughter and her mother as well as my mother-in-law came over for dinner. This year, due to my parents' trip to UK, people had missed our usual custom of serving our Hockchew Red Wine Chicken Soup with Mee Sua on the 2nd Day of CNY. Since my parents are back, people have started asking when they could come over for our famous Hockchew Red Wine Chicken Soup with Mee Sua.

Tonight was the first of many more "Hockchew Red Wine Chicken Soup with Mee Sua" gatherings to come. People love our Hockchew Red Wine Chicken Soup with Mee Sua because our mee sua are hand-made and are brought over from East Malaysia to us, by my relatives. As for the Hockchew Red Wine, my mother brewed it using a secret Hockchew recipe, following a real secretive procedure. Me, have I learnt how to brew the red wine? Nay, I am too lazy and besides, I am allergic to alcohol. Hahaha. My girls have been watching their grandmother brewing the red wine. I guess the baton of brewing red wine would be passed onto them. Hahaha.

Not to worry, people. Our Hockchew Red Wine Chicken Soup with Mee Sua is available all year round, not just during CNY. As long as you inform us 1 day in advance, it is a 100% guarantee that a delicious bowl of Hockchew Red Wine Chicken Soup with Mee Sua will be waiting for you the next day. You are welcome to 2nd and 3rd helpings too! SERIOUSLY.

See you all soon.
