Domino Effect

While I was resting at home on the second day of my medical leave, I received a call from Juliane in school just after 1pm that she wasn't feeling very well and was having a headache/ migraine. I rushed down to school but met with the traffic due to primary school dismissal.
We only managed to see the doctor at 2:30pm. Juliane is confirmed down with flu and she had a high fever close to 39C which was causing her headache/ migraine.
4th person to be down with flu... :(

First in 2017 II

After a sleepless night (because of my stuffy nose), I went to see the doctor in the morning. I have flu and also loss of voice and I was given two days of medical leave. My first medical leave for the year.
I really wanted to rest but had to deal with lots of emails which made me even more tired and sick. :( :(

First in 2017

My first illness in 2017! :(
I started having sore throat yesterday during the afternoon of Day 2 CNY. Took manuka honey but it was too late. I must have caught it from my older daughter who was ill since CNY eve.

Vicious Cycle

A vicious cycle.
Eat porridge = get hungry sooner = gastric pain = lose appetite = eat porridge = ... ...
Still recovering from my stomach flu... :(
I just couldn't stomach other stuff so have been having plain porridge but porridge makes me hungry sooner...
I want to get well soon! :(

1st Illness of the New Year :(

It is my first illness of the new year! :( I really didn't expect it so soon. :(
Woke up at 6am with cramps but I brushed it off as nothing serious. Bearing with the discomfort and pain, I went to work. Within an hour at work, the cramps got increasingly worse.:( I also had to visit the washroom thrice. Those who saw me said I didn't look well at at all. I had no choice but to postpone one meeting and to miss attending another meeting. I left in a taxi to see the doctor.
I saw my family doctor at 10+am and the diagnosis was Acute Gastroenteritis or more commonly known as "Acute Stomach Flu".
It is not fun being ill! :(

Sleep Talking

I don't know if it is because of her current illness (flu with fever), I discovered that Marieann talks in her sleep at least once during the night, for the past three nights. As her fever tended to flare up in the night, I would monitor her closely at night.
The first time it happened, I thought she was awake and talking to me so I replied her while I was reading my book. We had a couple of Initiate-Response cycles (to borrow from IRE cycles in education, she initiated question and I responded). Suddenly, there was just silence and I then reslised that she wasn't even awake! She had no recollection of our "conversation"when I asked her in the morning.
It happened again the second and the third night. On the third night (last night), she had a monologue and lasted for at least 30 seconds. As I couldn't hear clearly, I asked her to repeat and she did! It was kind of funny.
I just hope the sleep talking is a result of her fever and it would disappear soon.

First Illness of 2011

First, it was the girls' father who was down with cold on 1st January 2011. Now it is the girls' turn. Both of them are now down with cold (must have gotten it from their father). :(
Going to make sure the girls drink plenty of water, rest and keep away from me lol. :P

Home Today

Today, I didn't go into work. I stayed home.

Last night, Juliane started having a running nose and her breathing was quite laboured in her sleep. In the morning, I brought her to the doctor's. She was pretty upset as she wanted to go to school, lol. The doctor diagnosed her as having a flu and there was slight wheezing in her lungs. Gosh, wheezing?! Good thing, I brought her in early, definitely don't want the wheezing to get worse. Since she was such a good girl at the doctor's, I allowed her to have Burger King breakfast as a treat, lol.

At noon today, the Total Defence Day horn/ siren went off. Juliane was really irritated by the noise, lol. I took it as a teaching opportunity and explained to her about Total Defence Day and why TDD is on 15 February. In the afternoon, I supervised Marieann while she worked on her Cultural Studies and Chinese homework. Throughout the day, I read articles about conceptual change in learners for my project.

On the whole, it has been a rather fulfilling day for me.

Window of the Soul

Eyes are the window of the soul. To me, my eyes are much more than that. They serve another much more practical purpose, other than letting others have a glimpse of my soul, they warn me of any impending illnesses, lol. Not joking.

Often before I fall ill, my eyes are the ones that would act up first as they are very sensitive. So almost every time when they act up, I would quickly take precaution such as taking my vitamins, drinking more liquids, etc and of course, I would have to put eye drops for my eyes.

My left eye started itching quite badly on Monday night, Christmas Eve. I should have put eye drops and then leave it alone but I just couldn't resist rubbing my eye, alot, lol. It got worse on Tuesday, Christmas Day. There was a slight swelling just under my left eye, not obvious but it was quite painful whenever I blinked. I also started to take precautions too against illnesses, just in case, lol. :P

Today I went to see the doctor. Apparently, I have rubbed my eyes too much and germs have gotten into my eye gland resulting in the swelling. It would go away in a day or two, as long as I don't rub it. So except for my eye, I am otherwise healthy which is a relief to know, lol. Now, I will make sure I don't rub my eyes no matter how much they itch. Lol.

Coughing, coughing away

It has been nine days since I started coughing and there is lots of phlegm. It gets quite bad, especially at night. It is like there's something tickling you in the throat and then you starts coughing non-stop. It's that kind of cough that will keep you awake at night. I have been coughing so much now that my chest hurts and there is shortness of breath at times. The shortness of breath gets worse when I am at the research centre as there are a zillion stairs to climb. Hahaha. Ok, I exaggerated a bit but there is this LONG flight of steps that I need to climb to get to the nice canteens over at NTU and to get home. I don't like medicines because I have to be very careful as I am allergic to some very common chemicals/ ingredients in them. But maybe it's time I see a doctor about this cough...

Sick, sick, sick

I brought the girls to see the doctor on 27 Feb. The older girl did not recover from her last bout of flu and has got abit of wheezing in her lungs. The younger girl has got a cold. I hope they will recover soon.

It's confirmed that I have gotten something from one of the girls: I am coughing away and the throat hurt. Thank goodness, I have got some medication left over from my last visit to the doctor. I know I shouldn't self-medicate but I am too lazy to see the doctor again.

Virus, virus go away!

Going to bring the girls to see the doctor again. The girls were down with flu just two weeks before the Chinese New Year. In fact, the whole family were taking turns falling prey to the flu bug. At its worst, the four of us were all coughing and sneezing away the weekend before Chinese New Year. We were one sick family then. Hahaha, no pun intended :P

It seemed this flu bug is still haunting or hunting us. The girls have finished their medication but they are still coughing and sneezing. I myself am starting to feel the beginning of a sore throat again. Sigh...

Dear family and friends, take good care of yourselves.
