Happy 75th Birthday, Father/ Grandfather

Happy 75th Birthday, Father/ Grandfather!
May you enjoy good health and good life!

We brought my father for dinner at Red House Seafood Restaurant as he mentioned that he hasn't had pepper crab for a long time. Red House used to one of the childhood restaurants that my family used to visit. My father enjoyed his seafood birthday dinner very much!
Pepper Crab!
Thank you to everyone who sent their birthday wishes to my father via my Facebook! I really appreciate everyone's lovely gesture. My father is really happy to hear from all.

Family Gathering

My father and his cousin finally met again after having lost touch with one another for more than 10 years. :) They were the best of friends when they were kids in Malaysia. Both cousins have tried to contact each other but with the moving of homes, phone numbers and addresses inevitably got misplaced and lost.
When they finally made contact again, his cousin and wife and their grandson booked their flights and came to Singapore to meet up with my parents. My parents invited them over for a family dinner gathering together with my other Malaysian cousins who are now living in Singapore.
Black olive rice, braised duck, san bei squid, fried crispy long beans, braised pork with buns
An earlier visit on Wednesday 16 July when the uncle, aunt and their grandson arrived in Singapore

Happy 72th Birthday, Father/ Grandfather

Today is my father's 72th birthday. A close family friend brought a birthday cake for my father and they celebrated his birthday when the granddaughters came home from school in the afternoon. My brother and his family also called from UK to wish my father a Happy Birthday. I gave my father a red packet as his present so that he can go buy things that he likes or needs, most likely food lol. :P

Happy Birthday, Father/ Grandfather! Stay healthy!

A Shopaholic's Loves

My father is a shopaholic. He shops more than the female members of our family, namely my mother and I. There is not a day that he does not go shopping and not buy something home.
Today is the Isetan Private Sale, 8.30am - 10.30pm. He went to the sale three times - at 10+am, at 4+pm and at 7+pm.
The first time he went to the sale was due to his love of shopping. He bought a pair of shoes and some clothes for himself.
The second time he went to the sale was due to his grandchildren. He saw children's home wear which he thought would suit the girls. He brought Juliane along on his second trip to the sale. They came back with shopping bags full of kids' clothing.
The third time he went to the sale was due to his grandchildren again. Juliane likes the shorts that was bought for Marieann. Her grandfather decided to go back to the sale for the third time to get Juliane a similar pair. He came back empty-handed because the kids' shorts were sold out.
My father is a shopaholic. My father loves shopping. My father also loves his grandchildren.

Happy Birthday, Pa/ Grandpa

Today is my father's birthday. He called from Xiamen (where he and my mother are now having their break now) to chitchat with the granddaughters in the afternoon. The girls wished him "Happy Birthday". When I came home from work, the girls told me about their grandfather's birthday. Yikes, I forgot about it. I quickly called my father. Phew. Thank goodness, the girls reminded me. If not, I would probably get a scolding from my mother for forgetting. :P
Happy Birthday, Pa/ Grandpa!!

Happy 70th Birthday, Father/ Grandfather

Today is my father's 70th birthday. He forgot about it lol.
We took him to dinner at Putien Restaurant which serves Heng Hwa cuisine. Heng Hwa being one of the coastal areas in Fujian has similar dishes as the Hockchew which is our dialect group.
We ordered braised pig intestine ($13.90), spinach with salted egg and century egg in supreme stock ($12.90), bamboo herbal prawn, deep fried duck with yam ($15.90), braised beancurd with chinese cabbage soup ($19.90), bamboo clam omelette ($19.90), seafood fried rice ($7.90), and fried Hing Wa bee hoon ($7.90). It was a delicious meal with a cosy homely feel.

After dinner, we celebrated my father's or the girls' grandfather's birthday with a cake and birthday song. The girls enjoyed cutting the cake together with their grandfather.

Cooking Papa

There is a cookery video game for Nintendo called Cooking Mama. However, I have Cooking Papa at home. He experiments with different ways of cooking his food, and he is relentless until he perfects the dish, whichever dish he is obsessed with at the moment. So far, we have gone through a week of eating red bean pancake. Now his current cooking obsession is oyster omelette. It was delicious, the first two times. However, we became green around the gills when it appeared on the dinning table every night!
Thank goodness, he has proclaimed that he has perfected the frying of oyster omelette. At least we will get a reprise now from eating oyster omelette until he finds his next food obsession.
The Cooking Papa is none other than my father.

My Father's Eyesight

My father's eyesight is failing him fast. He has cataract. He was advised to have the cataract removed a year or two ago but he kept putting it off. He was worried about losing his "freedom". He is a restless person, he loves going out, shopping especially and he loves to cook. But if he has the cataract surgery, he will have to rest for two/ three weeks, depending on his rate of recovery. I don't think he will be able to do that. But he will have no choice. His driving has become erratic since his return from UK because of his cataract. For his safety and for the safety of others, he desperately needs that cataract operation!
This coming Monday, I will accompany him to see the eye specialist and hopefully a cataract operation can be scheduled for him soon!
