Bad Habit

of checking work email even on weekends. I need to break this bad habit.
I should be spending time with my girls, I should be resting to recharge for the new work week, I should not be checking work emails.

Survived

The first day back at work after a substantial amount of time away from work is the hardest to adjust back into the work routine.
I survived my first day back at work! Mainly clearing my 150+ emails. I decided not to check work emails for the 2 weeks that I was in Brisbane. I felt really great for those 2 weeks, no stress from work but today I paid the price.

Email Sign Off

You Are Sincerely
You're the type of person who puts manners first. You always act appropriately.
You are conscientious and responsible. You don't like the feeling of procrastinating or shirking.

While you don't always sign your emails 'Sincerely,' you make sure that they are well composed.
Whether you're emailing a friend or a business associate, you take the time to double check your words.

More than any other type, you make sure email doesn't pile up for you. You know it's important to reply quickly.
Some may say that email is going out of style, but you still consider it an art form. And you couldn't imagine living without it.

This is true of me. :) I always check and recheck my emails for mistakes before I send them off. I do read all my emails as soon as I can and reply as soon as I can but I seldom clear them out until I get a warning message that I have almost reached my mailbox quota lol.

My Homework

I have homework to do. I need to email my daughters' teachers. It is my habit. I always email their teachers during the first week of school as a courtesy. It serves to inform them that I am aware of the importance of parent-teacher partnership and I will work with them to develop my daughters' potential. So far for the past few years, their teachers have responded favourably to my emails and have always kept me updated about my daughters' progress in school. :)

April Fools' Joke?!

Just after midnight, I decided to check my work email as I hadn't had the chance to do so on Saturday. However, I had problem logging in. An error message kept appearing, saying that my user id or password is incorrect and to try again. As it was late, I thought it might be a system's error and decided to try again in the daytime.
However, throughout the day, the same error message kept appearing. Then it occurred to me that the same thing happened to me once before... the last time I had my contract extended/ renewed and there was some miscommunication between the IT department and HR department. Oh no. Don't tell me it is the same problem again. :( My old contract expired on 31 March with the new one kicking in on 1 April... What a way to start my new contract with a "April Fools' joke" courtesy of the IT department. :( :(

Email

I didn't know that email has been around for 29 years! Wow, that's a pretty long time. :) I don't think I can live without email lol. Email will probably be around for another couple of decades unless something else can be found to replace it... Nah, I doubt it lol.

I Have "Left", NOT!

I started having problems with my work email yesterday just after I had my lunch around 12pm+. I thought it might be a server problem when I couldn't log into my account. Well, the server was down for several hours during the weekend. So I thought it must have been the same problem again. No worries, I have work to do anyway and didn't need to check my emails.

However, when I returned home last night, I still could not log onto my work email after many, I mean MANY tries. I was getting worried. :( The server can't be down for so long, right? Hmmm, I hope it is not a similar problem that I had encountered with my library borrowing privileges. I could only wait and see when I went into office today.

Had the IT personnel over to check. Maybe it might be a password problem. Nope, it wasn't. It was really strange I could change my password but not log in. No choice, I had to lug my laptop to the institute's IT service centre to check what was the problem. To my horror, they told me I am NO longer staff of the institute, that I have left the institute. What the @#$*!!! X( So it is the same problem as my library borrowing privileges. SIGH! It is really a nuisance when this happens again and again just because HR hasn't inform the other departments that I am still with the institute. It does disrupt the flow of work for me and for others as they have to help me to settle the matters.

Even better, they have announced on the Staff Portal that I have left the institute on 30 November. Had friends and colleagues asking me why I decided to leave the institute when I had just told them not too long ago that I would be joining a new project on 1 December! So much hassle, all because HR didn't process their paperwork in time. As far as I know, the paperwork to join the new project was submitted in mid October. There was ample time to process everything in 1.5 months. But ... *shaking head* ... sigh, so much for efficiency!

To my friends and colleagues at work, I have NOT left! I am still here with the research centre and I have started on my new project and I am having fun in my new project. :)

PS. Just checked at 9:40pm. I have my email account again! Yes! I am in the system again. So fast, right? Because someone senior was in the cc list, so I guess that put the pressure on them to get things done more quickly, lol. Alamak, got so many mails. Now I have to respond to them..., lol.
