I went out with good friend in the afternoon to watch "Day Watch" which is the sequel to "Night Watch". This is the second movie of the trilogy (the last installment is supposed to be "Dusk or Twilight Watch"). Oh, by the way, this is a Russian fantasy action movie.
For anyone who watches "Day Watch" without "Night Watch", they will be totally lost as there are references to what happened in the earlier movie. And because it is in Russian, you really have to pay attention to the movie, lol.
In a nutshell, there are Others, who are humans and they possess various supernatural powers. They are divided between the Dark and Light forces and known as Dark Others and Light Others. They have to maintain a truce that was signed centuries ago to end a devastating battle between the dark and light forces. The Light Others govern the night (thus, Night Watch) while the day belongs to the Dark Others (thus, Day Watch). The Dark Others, such as vampires and other evil nightmares roam the night so the Light Others will try to control and limit the Dark Others' outrages. Both the Dark and Light Others keep each other in balance. Ok, still with me? In the first movie, there was a prophecy of the Great Other who is destined to immerse the world into the Dark. Therefore, the first side to attract the Great Other would find itself in the position to displace the balance and gain an advantage over the other. A Night Watch operative or Light Other, Anton had to prevent the Great Other from choosing the wrong side and the (future) Great Other turned out to be his son, Yegor. Well, at the end of the first movie, Yegor, due to some misunderstanding, made his choice and chose the Dark force.
In this second movie, Anton, the protagonist of the first film, finds himself in the middle of an approaching conflict between the Light and Dark Others who are still bound with an uneasy truce. To redeem for his earlier mistake, Anton seeks the legendary Chalk of Fate to rewrite history. Due to some incident, the truce was broken and an apocalypse was unleashed upon Moscow by Yegor who was now a Great Other. Anton managed to regain the Chalk but did he manage to rewrite history? Not telling, lol.
As with the first movie, the action is really great, with slow-mo effects and all. There were also some humourous bits in the movie. A real surprise, lol. I think the main theme in both movie is that of love, that of a parent's love for his child. But in this "Day Watch", the sub-plot of another father's (a vampire) love for his son attracted my attention. I think they pulled the story together in "Day Watch".
After the movie, we went for tea at Coffee Club, Ngee Ann City. We did some catching up. We also talked about the coming celebration party. She will be sending an email to all about it. I do hope people can make it. It would MEAN A LOT to ME! Thanks. =)
