New Movies
There are a number of movies coming soon that I am interested in watching.
Ghost in the Shell, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Alien: Covenant, Wonder Woman, The Mummy...
Now the issue is how and where to find time to watch them?!

B-grade Movies and I
I just have a thing for B-grade movies. If I want to give my mind a break, I would watch B-grade movies. :) They are sometimes silly, sometimes ridiculous, sometimes action-packed and they come in different genres - horror, comedy, sci-fi, ... B-grade movies are just pure entertainment and fun. :) Some of my favourite B-grade movies are Starship Troopers movies (1-3), Eight-legged Freaks (yes, I absolutely HATE spiders but I just love this movie lol), Tremors movies (1-4), and some of those mega creature vs giant creature movies haha. I discovered that Syfy channel screens quite a fair amount of B-grade movies such as the recently screened Sharknado.
Thank you, B-grade movies for keeping my mind sane! :)

Tiger Mom's Downtime (Kids Rejoice!)
Being the school holiday, I have no counselling today. I decided to take the girls out to enjoy ourselves for a day. No homework, no scolding lol. Well, a little bit of homework in the morning. Before we went for our morning movie, Marieann took some photos of trees for her holiday homework. We managed to take a few. We arrived at Shaw Lido at 10am. We bought tickets for the sneak preview of The Croods! :) The cinema was almost full, mainly families with children lol. The movie was better than I expected! Juliane loved the show. (Will review the movie in another post.)
After the movie, we went across to Far East Plaza's Nanbantei Japanese Restaurant for lunch. We were very lucky to get a table without reservations! :) We each ordered the famous Yakitori Bento ($13) which came with 5 sticks of yakitori, rice (with mushroom, seaweed and minced chicken), miso soup and dessert. Quail eggs and dessert: red bean with rice cake are our favourites. :)
We browsed around Far East Plaza after lunch. There are plenty of nice and interesting shops. We went back to Shaw Lido for our second movie of the day - Oz the Great and Powerful 3D. It was not too bad but I think I preferred The Croods, as did Julaine too lol. Marieann preferred Oz, maybe The Croods was too kiddy for her?!
We took a bus home. But before heading home, we detoured to the Botanic Gardens to take more photos of trees for Marieann's online homework. Below are some of the photos that Marieann took.
We were tired, especially after our walk at the Gardens. But we had a great time - no scolding and no homework (of sorts) lol.

Movie Mini-Marathon
The girls and I had a movie mini-marathon today. As it is getting close to the new school year, there isn't much time left to watch the movies that they wanted to watch.
We hit the first movie, Rise of The Guardian at 11.40am, Shaw Lido. We were armed with Sweet popcorn, Pepsi Light and Teh Tarik which we shared among the three of us. :) I thought Jack Frost looks really cute and Bunnymund (Easter Bunny) is so darn cool with his Aussie accent! Lol. :P We enjoyed the movie very much. Below are the trailers.

We headed straight for lunch after Rise of The Guardian ended at 1pm. As always with the girls, we had Japanese food. After lunch, we browsed around at Isetan Scotts to kill time as our next movie was at 3.10pm.
At 3pm, we headed back to the cinema for our second movie, Hotel Transylvania. :) We had enough of popcorn so we shared a Iced Milo and another Teh Tarik during the movie. There seemed to be more laughter from the girls for this movie. Well, Hotel Transylvania is funnier than Rise of The Guardian because there were more jokes. Below are the trailers.

Hotel Transylvania ended at 4.45pm. If I pushed for it, we could have watched a third movie, The Twilight Sage: Breaking Dawn Part 2 at 6.40pm haha. :P Not a problem for me as my record is 4 movies in one day. But I decided to give the girls a break, two movies in one day is not too bad for the girls lol. :P We stopped by the Isetan supermarket to buy some grocery before heading home where Marieann was in time to watch her favourite Chinese serial at 5.30pm.
I thought both movies are very entertaining and enjoyable. I am really glad that I watched both. :)

Watching Soon
ParaNorman
My girls and I saw the trailer for ParaNorman when we went to watch Brave. It was really funny and we are definitely going to watch it. :) The coming 1 week break would be the best opportunity for that. :)
Resident Evil: Retribution
I saw the trailer for RE: Retribution and I am definitely going to watch it! I enjoyed watching the first four installments. I will love this latest installment without a doubt lol. :P

Movie Remakes
There are plenty of remakes of movies recently.
The Nolan's Batman film trilogy is a separate entity from the first 3 Batman movies. I preferred the Nolan's Batman films because there is a lot more depth to the character developments and there are also darker issues being dealt with.
The Amazing Spider-Man is another remake. Again I preferred and love this new Spider-Man movie because there is more focus on and development of the main character rather than on the villain and there are darker issues that the new Peter had to deal with.
Total Recall, starring Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, is another remake. I thought this one is way, WAY better than the original Total Recall, featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rachel Ticotin, Sharon Stone. The plot and ideas in the new Total Recall seemed a lot more plausible and the fight scenes are fantastic! :)
The new Judge Dredd movie, known only as Dredd is coming soon...
Wonder what other remakes are coming our way?

Movies
There are a couple of movies that seem interesting - Act of Valor, John Carter, The Woman in Black. But where do I find the time to watch them?? Every day, after work, I have to supervise and monitor the girls' homework. The weekends too are usually burnt with the supervision of school and tuition homework.
Maybe one of these days I should take one day leave and just watch movies and eat popcorn for the whole day. (I have done that before, a record of 3 movies in a day lol).

Staff Lunch 2012
My good friend and colleague gave me a lift to our staff lunch at Mandarin Hotel. We arrived around 10.40am and therefore entitled to the Early Bird Gift lol. We could choose from either Shaw movie tickets, NTUC Fairprice $10 voucher or thumbdrive. I chose the voucher because I could pass it to my father who often shops at NTUC Fairprice. :)
There were a number of pre-event activities - glamour shots, caricature sketch, silhouette snipping, airbrush snipping and hair extensions. As a memento, I would always go for the glamour shot. :) I was actually lining up for the caricature sketch but it took too long. After 40 minutes, I was still in the queue. I decided to "cut my loss" and joined the queue for silhouette snipping. Within 10 minutes, I was holding my silhouette lol. :)
By 12noon, we were seated at our Table 21. :P It was the usual people at our table - DK, YZ, C, CD, G, K, S, and a new colleague, YX. The goodie bag was really good this year - Garretts popcorn, postit notes, pen - useful and practical stuff. :) The buffet was not too bad, had the famous Chatterbox Chicken Rice. Yummy! :) This year's MC was really good too. He was funny without trying hard and without being rude. We were all laughing so hard with his jokes and antics. :)
Our Table 21 was really lucky as well, with 2 people winning prizes from the top 25 prizes and 1 person winning from 26th-100th prizes. Not bad at all, considering there were about 700 people (70 tables) at the staff lunch, amounting to about one from each table winning something. And we had 3 prize winners from our table alone! :)
The fun ended at 3pm. I am already looking forward to the next staff lunch lol. :P
Oh, what I went as? I was Fiona from Shrek 2, the before transformation haha. :)

My PERI team - "Jasonette", "Fiona", "Ponyo", "Star Trek"

Decision Made
Excitement is really building up at my work place with regards to Saturday's Staff Lunch at Mandarin Hotel. Everyone is discussing what they will be going as. I have finally decided who I will go as. :) I get to dress in my favourite colour too, Green! Haha.

What Are You Going As?
That has been the most frequently asked question at my work place for this week! Lol. This coming Saturday, our organisation is having a Staff Lunch with the theme of "Going to the Movies". We have to dress up as a character in a movie that appeared in the year that we joined the organisation. :) I joined in 2004 and there were a couple of 2004 movies that I enjoyed watching such as Harry Potter 3, Van Helsing, Dawn of the Dead, The Chronicles of Riddick, Resident Evil 2, Alien vs Predator, Anacondas, Blade 3, and i, Robot, lol. Not exactly easy to dress up as one of the characters from one of those movies.
I have dressed as a Hogwarts student during one of my MOE HQ staff retreat (and won first prize for best dressed character! Lol) so I don't want to do that again. Let me think about it... I may go as a character from the movies or I may just go as myself. :)

Halloween Month
My girls seem to be gearing up for Halloween each in their own way even though we don't celebrate it lol.
Marieann made a "dress" for the peephole. I had a shock when I first saw it, not expecting it to be there. But I have to laugh at her creativity. :)

Juliane geared up by watching the RE trilogy with me. Although I have seen the movies a couple of times, I still jumped at scary places. Juliane didn't even moved a muscle but she chided me for scaring her when I jumped. I was rendered speechless...

Trilogy? No, It's Quadrilogy
I really enjoy the movie, Resident Evil (2002) and its sequels, RE: Apocalypse (2004) and RE: Extinction (2007). I just love watching horror movies lol. :P Thinking that Resident Evil has probably reached its limits in churning out sequels, I bought the Resident Evil trilogy (blu-ray) box set and brought it back to Singapore from Denver, USA this May. :)
I was most happy with my RE box set until I saw a trailer recently. It is Resident Evil: Afterlife! Yippee, a 4th RE to scare me silly haha. But a major ARGH too. I already bought the RE trilogy box set. :( Being somewhat OC, I will now have to buy the RE quadrilogy box set when it is released as I want to keep it as set.
PS. I am so going to watch Resident Evil: Afterlife when it opens in Singapore on 9 September 2010. :)

Follow the Lead
When you watch a movie, is it because
(a) of the movie genre,
(b) of the raving review it has been getting, or
(c) of the leading actor or actress?
I guess it could be anything, one of the above, or a combination of two or a combination of all three. I usually go for a combination of (a) and (b). However when the movie has Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead, it is definitely a (c) for me. :) :) :)
I have watched many movies starring Leonardo DiCaprio such as "What's Eating Gilbert Grape", "Titanic" (I saw it 5 times haha :P), "Romeo+Juliet", "The Man in The Iron Mask", "Gangs of New York", "Catch Me if You Can", "The Beach", "The Aviator", "The Departed", "Blood Diamond", "Body of Lies", "Revolutionary Road" and "Shutter Island". Now his latest movie is "Inception" which is a must watch! Although I started out watching the movies for the lead, Leonardo DiCaprio, I am lucky too in that his movies are often in a genre that I love and his movies often received raving reviews. :)
