iPad or Kindle?

I have both the iPad and Kindle. Although I know which one I favour more, it would be interesting to see what this Blogthing would reveal.

You Are a Kindle

You are a true lover of books and a hardcore reader. You love to get lost in what you're reading.
This is so true! :)
Even though you like spending time online, you know that it can distract you from what you should be doing.
Yes, like I should be working on the final revision for my dissertation, and not blogging lol. :P

You are rather serious and down to earth. You don't give into frivolous notions.
:P
If you will truly use a gadget, you'll buy it - but you don't buy anything just because it's the latest and greatest.
So, SO TRUE of me!! :) I love the games on the iPad but I much prefer to read using the Kindle, less glaring for me.

iPad II

iPad 2 has been revealed!
It is slimmer, lighter, and has more power!
But I will still stick with my iPad.
It is still serving me well.
No plans to replace it... yet. :)

BlackPad?

There is a rumour that BlackBerry may be coming out with a BlackBerry tablet, not unlike the Apple iPad in November 2010. It seems the BlackPad, a likely name, will have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options but not a 3G data connection.

If the rumour is true, there may be some interesting times ahead for people who are still deciding if they should go for an iPad. :)

iPhone

By now, this is definitely old news that iPhone 4 will be out in Singapore this coming Friday 30 July 2010. I have no doubt there would be lots of people, even MORE than those lining up for the iPad, lining up to get iPhone 4 this Friday. But I don't feel quite as excited about the iPhone 4 as the iPad. One reason is I was never a fan of the iPhone but i think more importantly, the recent negative reports and reviews about the iPhone 4 has further alienated me from the iPhone. :P

iPad Coming Soon!

I just heard from a good friend that iPad will be officially launched in Singapore on Friday 23 July. Haha. I bet this is great news to those who are hankering after an iPad. :) I have a feeling this first batch of iPad will be sold out quickly, very, VERY QUICKLY lol.

eBook

I have a Kindle. :) It is a gift from my friends, you can call it an early birthday present lol.

I have the Kindle for about 3 weeks now. Initially I was worried about the glare on the screen but my worries were unfounded. I found the reading on the ebook a breeze. :)

Kindle

My colleague recently bought a new electronic gadget. He brought it to show us in the office. It is a Kindle Wireless Reading Device.

The Kindle is pretty amazing. It is really thin and lightweight. The display screen looks like and reads like that of printed paper and there is hardly any glare even when I stood under the light! Really good for people with astigmatism like me haha. :) The Kindle can hold more than 1500 books, newspapers and magazines. And what's best for us researchers, it can also download journal articles onto it. :) In addition, you can change the text size which you can't do with books, newspapers and magazines. Good for those of us who are getting older haha. :P

However I am in two minds about getting a Kindle for myself. The Kindle will definitely help to free up space in my room (from more and more books that I am buying haha), cut down on waiting time for paperbacks and such and it is definitely convenient as you can have a number of books on hand to read at any one time. However, I am still an old-fashion kind of person when it comes to reading. I love books. I love nothing better than to feel each page as I turn it, to hear the rustle of the pages, to inhale the scent of books... I just love being with books, otherwise I wouldn't have been a librarian and head librarian for 6 years! And also with technology, it keeps advancing. What can be read today on Kindle might not be supported by newer reading devices a few years down the road... So I am in two minds... I guess if I ever buy a Kindle, I will still buy the physical books especially if they are books that I want to collect and keep. So much for saving on space huh lol. :P

My New Toy

I have bought myself a netbook, Asus Eee PC 1002HA. :)

I have been thinking about it for some time now especially after my HK and Korea trips last year. I was carrying my Acer Aspire 4920 with me then. Boy, was it heavy! For the coming USA trip, I would definitely need my notebook again but the weight of it just puts me off. So I decided to get a netbook lol.

My blue EPC1002HA is small, functional and definitely very LIGHT! :) I upgraded the 1GB RAM to 2GB. So far, I am okay with the typing on the keyboard and with the small screen. The only thing I am having problem with is the mouse pad. I like using the mouse pad on my notebooks. But don't know why, my index finger was really aching when I used the mouse pad. I think I will need to get a mouse for my epc, a small cute one lol. :P

I am loving my eeepc. :)

"You've become a techie!"

That was the subject title on my Facebook message from an old SCGS friend. Hahaha. :) Below is her message:

"I needed some distraction from writing my reports and started to read your blog for lack of anything else to do. OMG, you've become a tech-nerd - it's amazing considering that a few years ago, you couldn't even send a text message!! Ha ha ha!"

Thanks, K. I will take that as a big compliment! :) Yup, Friends, you read right! I was a complete IT idiot when it came to technical gadgets a few years ago. I didn't even know how to read my text messages nor know how to send them. LOL. :P But since joining my current workplace, I have become a little more IT savvy, lol. I learnt how to receive and send text messages, learnt how to MSN, and learnt how to blog. :) I have also learnt how to take videos, download them and compress them using the iMac. :) Not bad huh? Lol. But I still have a long way to go, a lot more to learn before I even dare to call myself a techie. Hahaha.
