Decision: Star Trek or Alien?

I saw these two t-shirts. I love them both but am torn between which one to get!
Both appeal to the geek in me. One is in my size, Small and the other is Large. Needed help to decide and sent help request via Facebook...
Friends and relatives chipped in with the decision-making. Now I know who are Star Trek fans and who are Alien fans lol.
In the end, I went with Star Trek because it probably won't freak people out and it is in my size lol. :D

"Aliens" are Coming!

My girls were shouting that when they rushed into my room yesternight. To prove that they were telling the truth, they dragged me to the window. We saw this.

It was the celebration at Marina Bay Sands. I told them it's too late, the "Gambling Aliens" have already landed. :(

District 9

I had some time off today and decided to watch a movie. Settled on District 9. It looked interesting enough from the advert and it is only showing in a few cinemas which meant I could also avoid the crowd.

District 9 turns out to be one of the best movies I have seen so far. It is a thought-provoking movie. It makes you ponder long after the movie has finished screening. District 9 is a sci-fi movie filmed as a mock documentary by first-time filmmaker, Neill Blomkamp and with first-time actor, Sharlto Copley casted as the lead role, a goofy government officer. It is almost like Cloverfield, another sci-fi movie as seen from a videocam but District 9 is tons better!! As the movie advances, it makes you ponder long and deep about issues such as rights as a group, rights as an individual, segregation, supremacy, what is humanity. There is also the exploration of emotions. Before you dismiss it as one of those boring thinking movies, there is action too and pretty cool. :) District 9 is definitely engaging both in terms of the drama as well as the action. Oh, but if you can't stand blood and gore, District 9 might not be so suitable for you. If you enjoyed movies like Cloverfield and The Blair Witch Project, you will definitely find District 9 your cup of tea.

District 9 is about a race of aliens who became stranded on Earth, and most refreshingly, in South Africa. The humans designated a district (thus, the name of the movie, District 9) for the aliens to live in but they are kept segregated from the humans. A series of events followed when the aliens were being moved from their slums in District 9 to a new district... Enjoy the trailer.

Ben 10 & Ben 10: Alien Force

I have been watching Ben 10 with the girls on weekdays on Cartoon Network at 7pm till 7:50pm. It is quite a nice American animated tv series. I do enjoy watching it lol. :)

The series is about a boy, Ben Tennyson, his cousin Gwen and their grandfather Max. One day, Ben found a mysterious, watch-like device, called the Omnitrix. The Omnitrix is attached permanently to his wrist and gives Ben the ability to transform into a variety of alien lifeforms, each with their own unique powers. Along with Gwen and Max, Ben uses his new found abilities to fight evil, both extraterrestrial and criminal. I love the different aliens that he transforms into, and with Ben's sense of humour, the series is quite funny.

Ben 10: Alien Force, the sequel to Ben 10 is shown on Fridays. It has Ben, now older with his cousin, Gwen and his former rival Kevin working together to fight both new and old enemies. Ben also has a new set of alien heroes at his disposal.

It is really relaxing to watch cartoon after a long day's work. Haha. :)

What's the SCARIEST movie you have seen?

A friend asked me today, "What's the best horror/ scariest movie you have seen so far?". It's a no-brainer for me. (No-brainer means anything requiring little thought or effort; something easy or simple to understand or do. It is NOT an offensive word and definitely not used to offend the person who asked me the question. Just suddenly remembered how a politician used that same word and was bombarded by the public.)

To me, the best horror/ scariest movie I have seen so far is "ALIEN". I can still remember its tagline: "In space, no one can hear screams". I first saw it when I was in Sec 2 (I was too young to see it in 1979 when it was released in the cinema). My father had just bought the LD player and the "Alien" LD, and I invited my friends over to see it. The scary factor went up with the superb B & O surround sound system, which connected the B & O hi-fi system to the B & O television. It was almost like in the cinema. The action of "Alien" was onboard the commercial starship Nostromo: just lots of dark, narrow, confined spaces, and ONE alien. That was all that it took to make "Alien" a great horror movie, oh yeah and the "horror" music, of course.

The others in the "Alien" series - Aliens, Aliens 3, Alien Resurrection, Alien Vs Predator are not too bad but none compared to "Alien" in terms of the horror factor. By the way, there are rumours of Alien 5 coming out in 2008. We shall see...

The best horror/ scariest movie I have seen is "Alien". So what's yours?
