Irrational Worry?

I was asking where would the girls want to go for holiday this June as next year, we will not be going away because it's PSLE year for Juliane. Juliane was excitedly telling me she wanted to go here and there. On the other hand, Marieann said she will only go overseas in 2016! I was surprised. Why? Is there a difference between 2015 and 2016? 
Upon probing, she told me she doesn't want to fly because of all the plane crashes in 2014. Wow, I didn't realise she was keeping tabs on the plane crashes. I tried to tell her that plane crashes are rare as compared to car crashes but she was adamant and would rather forgo overseas holiday this year.
Ok it may be an irrational worry but I am impressed with her resolve.

Knock+Fall=Bump

I received a call from school that Juliane had an accident. According to her teacher, after the computer lesson, Juliane went under the table to check if she dropped her stationery under the table. Her classmate, not seeing Juliane, pushed in the chair which knocked into Juliane and caused her to fall forward against a protruding metal piece under the table. A huge bump appeared on her forehead in between her eyes. The teacher used an ice-pack to try to reduce the swelling but it was really evident. 
I brought her to see the doctor and the doc said she is really lucky because just a little lower, Juliane would have broken her nose bridge. That's too close for comfort! :S Juliane was given an ointment to apply on her bump. I was told that the swelling would take a few days to go down and that I should monitor Juliane to see if she feels giddy, nauseous; if there is sudden lethargy; if she has headaches; ... for the next 24 hour period.
When at home, Juliane said she was tired and took a nap. However, after an hour's nap, I couldn't wake her up and she usually wakes up promptly at the first call. As "difficulty to awaken" is one symptom to look out for, I panicked for a moment! Thank goodness, after a few more tries, she finally woke up but seemed a bit dazed. I asked her a few questions and she was able to answer them correctly. Phew. Maybe she was really just exhausted after her "eventful" day in school.
I hope that Juliane will be less accident-prone. Not too much to ask, right?

PAIN!

I had an accident today, just before I left for work. In my hurry to leave, I accidentally stubbed my right foot on my room door which left the door rattling away. My middle toe went numb and I quickly rubbed it without looking at my foot. As I was walking to the living room where I left my computer bag, I spied with the corner of my eye a trail of red on the floor. Why is there a bloody trail?! When I looked down at my right foot, I saw my middle toe totally covered in blood! At that point of time, I felt PAIN!! I quickly went into the bathroom to clean up. The skin covering my toe was nearly tore off and flapping around. I did something which I shouldn't have -- I tore the skin off! OUCH!! It was pain upon pain. :( I bandaged it as best as I could. Unfortunately, I didn't own any peep-toe shoes/ sandals and had to wear the most comfortable covered shoes I had - my Crocs. It was hurting like hell with every step I took. When I arrived at work, my bandage was soaked through with blood and I had to change it with the supplies from the First Aid box. During lunch, my good friend drove me out to the nearest shopping mall so that I could just buy a pair of sandals to wear and to buy first aid supplies. Thanks much, DK, I really appreciated your help. 

My toe was throbbing away in pain the entire day. I had to change the bandage twice more during the day as the wound was still bleeding away. Being pre-diabetic, I think it didn't help. :( When I arrived home in the evening, I called for the family doctor as it happened that Juliane wasn't feeling well. He took a look at my toe too and scolded me for tearing the skin off my toe. :( He said that my toe nail has actually been dislodged from the bed and has moved from its original position. But he advised me NOT to touch/ remove the nail and let it heal on its own. The main worry is infection so I had to keep applying antiseptic cream on my toe and to keep it clean and dry.

I hope my toe will heal soon! I can't stand the pain. I swear the pain is worse than labour pain! I swear I will be more careful in the future.

Horrific Accidents

Yesterday, my mother, the girls' father and I witnessed a horrific accident. A white poodle was hit by a black car (Lexus maybe) at Holland Road going towards town. :( The cars over three lanes slowed down when we saw the dog running across the road. However, the car in the right most lane continued speeding and hit the dog and the car didn't stop! The dog was flung across three lanes and landed in the left most lane. It landed in a most awkward position. The other cars behind all slowed down. I only hope that the dog died instantly so that there was no pain. I only hope that the black car that hit the dog (and didn't even slowed and stopped) will have a huge dent!!
Today, on my way to work, near King Albert Park Mckkies, I saw the remains of a kitten on the road. It must have wandered onto the road and was hit by a vehicle. :( It happened in the morning because the body was still intact but not its head... Sigh.

Pet Owners, please make sure you keep your pets at home or on a leash if you bring them out for a walk. Car drivers, please slow down if you see an animal crossing the road.

An Accident and Hari Raya Gathering

While I was out in the afternoon, an accident happened at home.

The girls were as usual playing together. According to eyewitnesses' and victim's reports, the sisters were dancing in circles while holding hands. Unfortunately for Juliane, Marieann didn't know about the danger of suddenly letting go of her younger sister's hands in the midst of dancing in circles. Juliane lost her balance and fell against the antique windscreen. She suffered a cut just above her right eyebrow. Thank the stars! If it had been half an inch lower... Of course, the little one panicked and started crying when she saw blood. My mother patched the cut up. Thank goodness, no stitching needed. But I only hope it will not leave a scar.

Marieann wasn't at fault as she didn't know her actions would have such serious consequence for her younger sister. However, she was told firmly not to play too rough with her sister, especially now that her sister is recovering... I think Marieann have learnt from this lesson.

An ex-MOE HQ colleague, Rahidah invited my family to her place for a Hari Raya gathering in the evening. This is one gathering that I look forward to every year. There is good company and good food! Knowing that I can't take spicy food, Rahidah always makes sure there are non-spicy Malay dishes for me to take. It is really considerate of Rahidah. Bless her. Besides the delicious Malay dishes (Rahidah's place is the only place I will willingly take Malay food, lol), there are yummy Hari Raya goodies (cakes, cookies, kuehs) too. I couldn't stop myself munching away on those goodies, so did my girls, lol. Like mother, like daughters, hahaha.

Amidst the eating, it was wonderful catching up with my former colleagues on what's happening in HQ and in schools. Important information, might be useful if I should decide to return to HQ, lol. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. We have to leave at 9:30pm as it was past the girls' bedtime. Thanks again for inviting us every year without fail, Rahidah. See you next year! =)

New Note, Accident, Age

Have you seen the new $20 polymer note? I have and I have one. Actually, I didn't know anything about it until today. After we had lunch, two of my friends went to the bank to line up to get the new $20 polymer notes after lunch. They asked for our (another friend and I) help to get the new notes as each person could only get 2 pieces. At first, I thought my friend was joking and didn't really pay attention to him. Lol. Sorry, friend. We waited in line for almost 20 minutes and then we each had to fill out a form with our name and IC. no. before we could exchange the new notes. Wah, really strict. While walking back to our office, friend decided to let me have one since I lined up to help him get the new notes. Hahaha. Ok, I only like the yellow orchid on the note. Lol.

Today, while waiting at the bus-stop for 105 to return home, I witnessed an accident between a truck and a taxi less than 10 metres away. I happened to be looking in the right direction and saw it occurred. First time I ever saw an accident right before my eyes! Thank goodness, no one was seriously hurt. It was the taxi's fault. The taxi was actually in the wrong lane and he tried to cut into the truck's lane. I think the taxi assumed the truck would give way to him or would move to the next lane. Wrong assumption! Next, I knew there was a sharp screech of metal against metal for several long seconds which was really jarring on the ears. The taxi and the truck were still there when my bus came 10 minutes later. They were probably waiting for the police? Sigh, with drivers like that, should I take up driving again? Hahaha.

When I went to see a movie recently, I was asked for my IC to verify that I am above 18 years old. Hmm... wondering if the guy was trying to be funny or not? I mean if I look in my twenties, ok, it might still be plausible, lol. But me under 18?! Ok, that is too far-fetched, even for me! Hahaha. Yes, I have been told by many that I look younger than my actual age. Well, I guess I am flattered when people think I look younger. Shouldn't complain, huh? Better relish the compliments while I can still receive them. LOL.
