Chinese (Dim Sum) Lunch, Japanese Dinner

***
Dim Sum Lunch
After seeing the doctor, it was almost 11am. So we or rather I walked very slowly over to Shaw Centre for Dim Sum at East Ocean Teochew Restaurant. It has been a while since we last had dim sum. We had Char Siew Pau, steamed carrot cake, siew mai, chicken glutinous rice, mango prawn fritters, fried white bait, and the girls' Ninja Turtles (actually it is shrimp paste made to look like turtles, lol). It was a fairly quick lunch and hubby sent us home by 12pm before he went to see a dentist.

Japanese Dinner at Sho-U, The Central
In the evening, we decided to go out for dinner. Well, we (the girls and I) slept throughout the afternoon and so we were well-rested and have energy to burn. Lol. We went to The Central. We tried out a Japanese restaurant called Sho-U. The decor is really striking, there are 3 seating sections: red, black and white. We were led to the white section which faces the river. Nice view.

We ordered the following to share.
For appetiser - Lotus Root Chip with Tuna and Kanpachi (Sho-U recommendation, $15++). It is fresh tuna and kanpachi slices, placed on top of lotus root chip which add crunch. However, we didn't realise the tuna was raw. So hubby had all the tuna while the girls and I could only eat the lotus root chips. Lol.

For sashimi - Maguro ($12++). This dish hubby had it alone. It came with 3 pieces of tuna. Hubby said it was very fresh and nice.

For seafood - Unagi Tofu steak (Sho-U recommendation, $16++). There is a whole piece of unagi (river eel) sandwiched between silken tofu and lightly fried like the Agedashi tofu. It is then cooked in sweet teriyaki sauce and presented with grated Japanese yam poured over the tofu. This dish is really refreshing, nice and healthy too. A new twist to the Agedashi tofu with the unagi (I think, although they didn't say it is Agedashi tofu) and the fresh grated yam gives it an added texture. I like this one very much!

For hot pot - Soy Bean Shabu Shabu (Sho-U recommendation, $25++). This soy bean soup (therefore the soup is white in colour) came to the table with ingredients such as tofu, mushrooms, spinach, bak choy in it. You could order either chicken or pork slices to cook in the soup. We ordered the pork slices. There is also a vinegar sauce for us to dip the cooked ingredients. They didn't mention but I think the vinegar sauce is flavoured with yuzu, thus giving the pork slices an extra omph when dipped in it. A very healthy soup, not oily, not salty but yet still full of flavour. I like this one too!

For staple - Kinoko Tsukemen ($12++). It is the hot version of cold soba. The green tea noodles is dipped into a hot and thick mushroom broth. The green tea noodles went very well with the broth. A very healthy and refreshing combination. I could finish this one on my own! But alas, I have to share with the girls. Lol.

For dessert - Chef's Plate of Speciality Desserts (Sho-U recommendation, $15++). It is a trio of dessert. Usually, the chef will pick out the desserts for you so you just have to wait and be surprised! I highly recommend this dessert for all who have a sweet tooth and like to be surprised! =) We made a special request to the chef for strawberry stuff and we were obliged. Our trio of desserts had a chocolate panna cotta with strawberry sauce, strawberry ice-cream and strawberry mousse. The girls went wild, well, me too but I had to control myself! Ok, I did have a few teaspoons, not more than 5, I assure you, my friends who are concerned for my health. :)

Overall verdict: the food is very nice and healthy (at least those dishes that we ordered) but can be quite pricey. Maybe once in a while is okay for the pockets. Oh, as usual, some photos of us. :)
