Haze is Back :(

The haze is back without any warning. :( Woke up to the air full of acrid burning smell. The haze even permeated into my office at work! That's how bad it is.

My workplace at NIE looked as if we are surrounded by fire within our immediate vicinity. :O

Thrill

We are thrilled to know that Starhub TV is offering free preview of over 140 channels (25 to 28 September) to beat the haze for families with nowhere to go during this period of haze, especially after the PSI peaked at 300+ on Thursday 24 September. However the only one channel we are interested in is Thrill channel which is dedicated to the horror suspense genre lol.  
Interestingly, the PSI reading for the haze dropped to Unhealthy range of 100+ on Friday which was declared a day of closure for all Primary and Secondary schools. Even today, it has been relatively haze-free, with the PSI reading being in the Moderate range (51-100). :) 

Hazardous Haze PSI > 300

The haze is back with a vengeance. :(
The PSI readings were hovering around the mid 100s (Unhealthy range) during the day on 24 September 2015. However, from 5pm onwards, it took a turn for the worse and the PSI readings hit 200 and above (Very Unhealthy range). The PSI readings steadily increased and crossed over to above 300 (Hazardous range) by 7pm. 
During the 9pm news, MOE announced that all primary and secondary schools will be closed on Friday 25 September 2015, including MOE kindergartens and special education schools. It is expected that the PSI readings for 25 September is likely to be in the Very Unhealthy range with the possibility of crossing into the Hazardous range. 
My girls are really happy until they realised that there is going to be e-learning in place of going to school. Lol. Sorry, girls. No free "holiday". 
I salute all the teachers who have been calling up students and parents to inform them of the school closure on 25 September in case they missed the news on the media and social media. 
I also salute all the teachers who still have to go to school to supervise the students who would be going to school if their parents cannot find alternative care arrangements. 
To everyone I know, please take great care! 

Haze No More?

The haze situation in Singapore seems to be getting better. It's still hazy but at least not more than 150 PSI, unlike the other day where it hit 248 PSI.

That's the 3-hours PSI air as at 11:40pm. 
No wonder I feel the way I feel... :(

Migraine + Haze

Migraine + haze is not a good combination! 
I started having a migraine in the evening. With the haze, my migraine only got steadily worse. :(  

Haze is Back

The haze from Indonesia is back in Singapore. :( The nights have been especially bad. Somehow the burning smell seemed especially strong and acrid at night. My allergic reactions (throat, nose and eye irritations) have been particularly bad during the nights. Need to replenish my stock of antihistamine such as Zyrtec-D. 

Continued Respite

We are continuing to get a respite from the haze from Indonesia. The PSI values have maintained and remained under 100 which is in the moderate range. Hopefully the burning situation in Indonesia remains under control and that we can all continue to have clean air for the sake of our health. :)

A Respite from the Haze

We finally have a haze-free day, almost. There is still some haze but the PSI values are well below 100, in the moderate range. I took the opportunity to pack my wardrobe and clear out clothes that I have not wore in months, actually years lol. :P Found some clothes which I totally forgot that I have them. Must wear them soon lol. Managed to pass on a few of my dresses to Marieann. Yes, she is almost as tall as I am and could fit into some of my clothes which are all in very good condition, some even with the tags still on them. Hmm, am I hoarder?! :P

A Newer High/ Low

Just when I thought the PSI value has peaked and couldn't climb any higher, it DID! At 12pm today, it reached a record high of 401. This is by the far the highest PSI value in Singapore's history since haze started appearing annually. :( :(

A New High

Or low, depending on how you look at it. The PSI value was 371 at 1pm today which indicated that the air was "hazardous"! For the entire day - eyes are puffy and smarting, throat is itchy and painful, nose is itchy and blocked. Also temporarily "lost" the sense of smell, can smell nothing except an acrid burning smell. Sigh.

PSI 321!

I can hardly believe my eyes when I saw the Pollutant Standards Index reading. It was 321 at 10pm!! When the PSI value is in the range of above 300, the air becomes "hazardous". The PSI value of 321 at 10pm, 19 June 2013 is now officially the worst reading in Singapore's history. The previous worst reading was 226, in 1997. No wonder my nose-throat problem acted up as I was working with my girls on our Taipei 2013 trip travel journal/ scrapbook. 
The haze is definitely a health hazard to old folks and children, people with respiratory and heart issues, as well as expecting mothers. When will this ever end? Every year, we face the same problem. It is not new. Our neighbour doesn't seem very neighbourly as the same haze problem occurs every year. Sigh. 

Home HAZY Home

I returned home to a HAZY Singapore. :( :( Indonesia is doing it again. Grr... 
If I had known Singapore is hit by haze again, I would have done one of the following things:
(1) postpone my return to Singapore (and stay longer to eat and shop in Taipei), or
(2) buy those functional but cute face masks in Taiwan back to Singapore. :)
The face masks in Taiwan are so cute and they are actually functional too, doing what they are intended to do. They sure beat the boring green/ blue paper masks that Singapore sells here.

Attack

I kept thinking I have been unwittingly eating food with MSG (I am allergic to MSG) as my throat has been most uncomfortable - sore, constricted and irritated. :( Now I know who the culprit is, the haze!! :( :( :(

The Haze

The haze is back and it is really bad today. When I stepped out of my office, it was really hazy and the acrid burning smell is really choking. :(

When I got home, the windows were all shut. The girls said they didn't like the haze as it reminded them of "The Fog". What?! I think it is time they stop watching horror movies!

Hazy Day

As I stepped out of my place, an acrid burning smell hit my nose. Huh? Is there a fire somewhere? Must be a pretty bad one. As I travelled towards my workplace, my eyes seemed to become"blurry" at times. There seemed to be a "mist" veiling some places.

Finally I knew why there was a burning smell hanging in the air and a smoky haze shrouding the place. The haze, which is the result of smoke from slash and burn activities in Indonesia, is back in Singapore. :( It seemed the haze situation in Singapore would only get worse as the dry and hot weather peaks in September. :( :(
